Samsung 950 pro not working

Hi!

I just installed a new mothermoard in my pc because the postal service dropped my pc when I was moving and my old mobo was destroyed.

My problem is that my samsung 950 pro 256 gb is not currently working, i cannot find it in windows or in the uefi bios.

The 950 pro was working just fine on my old motherboard, which was a MSI Z97A Gaming 7 and I could not find any new or used of the same kind so i had to get an other motherboard.

I now have:

Msi z97 Gaming 5

2x Gainward GTX 970

Intel I5 4690k

EVGA Supernova 1000 g2 PSU

Samsung 950 pro 256 GB

HyperX Fury DDR3 1600MHz 4x4GB

WD SE Enterprise 1TB SATA3.0

ASUS PCE-AC68 AC1900

Is it not compatible or something like that?

Be sure its plugged in properly.

Unplug and then plug it in and make sure all the cables are seated.

z97 gaming 5 is only AHCI I believe. So Pci-e boot drives won't work I think... not positive, but pretty sure.

It's an M.2 drive so doesn't have cables.

I fell for that one before in BIOS. AHCI.

Actually I was wrong, it should support

I was wondering about this because ive had it longer than the return time thingy, so i wanted to be sure before i tried to send it in to get it checked out.

do you have any tips for what i could try before i decide to send the mobo back?

Make sure you have the latest BIOS version.

Try a LIVE linux USB to see if it appears on there.

Is everything else in windows working OK? you may need drivers for the device.

Yes, I have been using this pc for gaming for a while now

Sorry, I meant you may need NVME drivers for the drive to work maybe? what version of windows are you running?

Win 10 64bit.

On my other motherboard it was just plug and play with the ssd. and to be honest, i dont know what NVME is

The 950 pro is an NVME SSD, while other M.2 drives like the 850 evo for example are SATA AHCI drives. The differences are pretty much to do with the data transfer rates and IOPs, the NVME drives when using an x4 Pci-e lanes through an NVME capable m.2 slot are very fast compared to SATA AHCI drives.

Your motherboard is only an x2 lane PCi-e lane m.2 slot though, so won't be as fast.

Maybe yeah, I'm not positive. it says " PCIe Gen2 x2/SATA " but it doesn't say about NVME specifically which is why I'm not sure. If I had an NVME drive to use I would test it out for you to be sure, but I don't have one at the moment.

My new rig's motherboard says " 1 Ultra M.2 (PCIe Gen3 x4 & SATA3) " , and is fully compatible with NVME/AHCI drives, so yours should work but just slower.

But, you may need NVME drivers for it to work.

Did you do a fresh install of windows after changing motherboards? I don't see it mentioned anywhere

no. i did the reset thingy in windows.

it works now:) there was a little tiny bit of clear plastic wrapping that had come inside the m.2 port. but thanks alot for your help!
