Anyone think my plan is bad??? (upgrade)

grayblizzard

so this is my current build: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/r4z66X

I just received a few gifts to allow me to have about $300 for an upgrade.

I dont overclock so my plan (because I want to eventually have a smaller, red, black and white build) is to buy this combo : http://pcpartpicker.com/list/BNwZwV

is this a "good" enough upgrade, while i know this is subjective i just want some advice...

<p>Wish I could have this already!! : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qTLRjX

thats a pretty good upgrade but you will need to get DDR4 RAM aswell

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

What games do you play and what kind of performance do you get currently? I would personally probably try to overclock your CPU and not buy a new CPU until you're ready to upgrade everything. (unless of course you play certain games that run like ass on piledriver, in which case, upgrade!)

well ive had some issues with csgo as if you look some people suffer with amd cpus, but i also play overwatch and i plan on getting into some singleplayer titles. In general however i kind of dont want to overclock with only one build considering while most dont mess anyhting up i dont want to and only have one computer and no backup.

thanks for the opinion should i just bite the bullet and overclock?

Well, if you're planning on upgrading (and have the money to upgrade), then there's no real risk of not having a system if you overclock. Also, you basically have to be a complete moron to cause damage when overclocking -- keep the voltage at a reasonable level (whatever that is for Piledriver), and keep temps < 80ºc when running Prime95/Aida64 and you have nothing to worry about.

Great choice and understand you dont OC, but even then a OC when you would reach a limit is more costeffective over time and can add some extra usable lifespan if needed. A simple OC then is not to hard.

I would recommend to go unlocked (k) and spend a bit more money. You need a Z170 board and CPU cooler then so you will go over your current budget, but as said in the long run thats cheaper then the need for upgrade to other CPU or even platform if you would run into CPU limit.

The Evo 212 is a decent budget cooler then is good enough for a simple air cooled OC.

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.

Ok so, I think that you can really do great things with this build.

You first move should be to use the $300 you have to get the i5-6500 and the Gigabyte GA-H170-GAMING 3 motherboard.(you already have ram for it.) Then sell you current motherboard, cpu, ram, cooler, case and psu. You can then replace them with these:

Hyper 212 evo cooler

NZXT s340 or Fractal Divine S or R4 (good cases around 65ish)

About a $75 power supply (over 600 watts and full modular)

You probably will end up needing to use more money the what you sell the old stuff for. (to get the cooler, case, and PSU) But, in the end, I think you will have a very nice build that you will love.

P.S. With this upgrade you will end up with a black and red color scheme and after this upgrade, the next thing you should look at upgrading is you graphics card.

the only thing is that i want to move to a m-atx smaller form factor also i already have a decent cooler that i dont wish to change, i am thinking to ask for a case for christmas and to upgrade my psu later. This choice will allow me to keep my current cpu, moo and ram to make a secondary build or to sell laer.
