Hey guys,

so I am looking for a laptop for programming. Last week I just sold my surface book, I liked it, but I feel like a 13inch laptop is too small for programming. and my current alienware 15 is too heavy

There is really no budget limit here but I hope it could be lower than 2000 bucks.

I want a 15 inch (or 14?)laptop with good typing experience, the build quality should also be good, battery life around 4-5 hours.

Is razer blade good for programming?  I owned a xps 15 before , anyone knows when will the new version be released?

THX

Do get a Razer Blade, if by all means you dont require high processing power, from a mobile Xeon for example. It has a gorgeous display if you want to make your sessions more lively ehe (the new one ofc) and it should have more than enough power for any programming application you can throw at it.

Yeah, I kinda like the razer blade and the price is not too bad this generation, but I heard a lot of people complain about the razer... uh...IDK

also I dont know if 14 inch with qhd display is good for programming, I wish they have 1080p touch option

I dont know what your surfacebook had but more pixels is better you can fit more information on your screen. unfortunately all the laptops i would recommend are all 13" ones.

Well not really, but if your gonna get a laptop at least one with a good display and lightweight chassis. I do believe touchscreen would have been useful someway, but we cant have it all together it would seem. Also, i think people complain about Razer mostly for its price. The 179€ Razer Mamba is just freaking insane, when in comparison to aluminium offerings from Corsair M65 Pro or Logitech G900 Chaos beast. Also quality assurance issues seem to have plagued some users more than expected. But theyr still a trustworthy brand and one that makes great technology. You know its good if Linus is using one of your laptops as its mobile workstation, to some extent.

Non-gaming: T460s. Best keyboard, best support, best build quality.

Gaming: Wait for the new XPS15. Or grab something like the new Alienware 13. The OLED screen is something else. But if it's too small, no 14in laptop really is good right now. The GS43VR from MSI has heatpipes running over the wlan card and hdmi port. The Razer Blade is a overheating mess with so many QC issues right now that it's hiliarous. It's power limited to reduce thermals deliberately so you can really shit performance compared to other 1060 laptops, and also has issues with power management where if you run the laptop at full spec (overheating and throttling while doing it), it also drains the battery cause it uses more power and than it charges. GG razer. gg.

Um that's actually just not true. Having 4k on a 14in laptop makes it unusable without scaling. Windows scaling is far inferior to MacOS, so high resolution panels on small screens are highly discouraged. When scaling works fine, things will work. When things/programs don't work, you're absolutely fucked because the UI will be impossibility small to use.

Literally untrue. All their laptops overheat to shit (even more so than Macbooks). Loud as fuck due to high thermals. Razer support is so bad. Linus uses it because a) it's free, b) it's a cherry picked model with no QC issues, c) he doesn't game on it so won't run into thermal issues.

Many people dont complain about them and just because you or some others tend to join the omnidirectional hatewagon of a specific brand without any conclusive and generalized analisys, doesnt mean everyone is gonna have a bad experience because you said so. Like come on, tell me a laptop that doesnt weight 4,5-5Kg or doesnt with an external liquid cooling station that doesnt heat up quite the bit while stressed and yeah, im totally sure Linus laptop was cherry picked.... LTT Boss Exclusive Razer Blade right eh?

All of the blades thermal throttle like hell and has a super short lifespand. Razer has zero quality control on them, heck a guy came to me with one that didn't even turn on and it was brand new.

You want a laptop bellow 4.5kg that doesn't thermal throttle like hell, that is easy, AW 13r3, clevo P650RP6, GS63VR

Just because I like this laptop a lot, I'm going to throw in Dell's Inspiron 15 7559. The Core i7 version (which is an i7-6700HQ, a quad core with hyperthreading) is still under $1000 and it has a decent battery life (about 5-6 hours). If you need a budget-ish performer, that one is it. As far as thermals go, I've had no problem with it. I actually did a dungeon run in FFXIV with the laptop on my lap and it didn't feel uncomfortable.

Though they are planning a refresh which looks tacky.

Bro wtf are you saying. It's 100% confirmed that Blades throttle. Take a look at Razerzone forums and NBR forums to see quality control issues. LOL. Literally the first person to post a review (with temps) on Razerzone then goes to RMA the laptop.
