How do I know what's making my FPS drop?

UltiTyler

So I have been running into an issue recently that pertains to playing video games so I thought I'd ask my questions here. Recently I bought an RX 460 4gb graphics card that I thought would improve my system a lot from the 1gb graphics card I had before. People reviewing this card claim "1080p sweetspot" when I find that a little hard to believe. Currently matched with my graphics card I have an AMD Phenom II X2 B55 processor running at 3.0 ghz and 8gb of DDR3 ram operating at 535MHz. I understand this is underwhelming compared to the latest and greatest. My question is: Are games being slowed down by my graphics card or the rest of my sytstem? Some of the games I have noticed slowing down are Quantum Break, GTAV, and Paladins.

Definitely your CPU. You can check if your CPU is bottlenecking usually if it's constantly at 100% usage while gaming.

1. It's definitely the Phenom

2. Are you sure your RAM is 535Mhz and not 535x2 = 1070Mhz? Computers tend to 'recognize' RAM at half the speed it operates at

Speccy reads it at 535mhz, pretty sure its 535x2 ((What speccy reads) 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 535MHz (7-7-7-19)

See I'm waiting until Zen comes out to do a mass upgrade, but with my motherboard (MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO.LTD 785GM-E51 (MS-7596) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130247) is there a better processor I can pick up that will improve my gaming experience? Because its an outdated architecture shouldn't it be relatively cheap?

I wouldn't waste any money on that. Just ride it out until you're ready to upgrade.
