GPU BOOST 2.0 vs 3.0 - difference?

im pretty sure that 3.0 take a lot of controll over your voltage and 2.0 didnt have as much controll

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

"Here is some advice that might have gotten lost somewhere along the way in your life.

#1. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

#2. It's best to keep your mouth shut; and appear to be stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt.

#3. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place.

I had a 770 which has GPU boost 1/2 idk but iirc they are not much different. It basically did nothing ... Just a buzz word

My 1080 on the other hand would automatically clock up to 2000MHz without doing anything if my I am not PCI limited for once. 3770k things ...

Basically you boost gen 3 is the first gen that actually matters because on the 900 gen the auto IV was neglectable/ could be handily beaten in 2 minutes of moving sliders when manually overlocking.

If the load is high enough the clock increases and it decreases based on temps. I don't think gen 2 and 3 differ in that regard though 3 is far more effective at doing its job.

GPU Boost 3.0 has finer clock speed control based not only on thermals, but electrical limits as well. This lets it so the GPU can be closer to its theoretical limits rather than a line that could have wasted potential.

I'm also certain that for GPU Boost 3.0 cards the manufacturers list the boost clock using the old model where the GPU is guaranteed to hit those speeds because each GPU will overclock differently. For example, my video card is advertised as having a boost clock of about 1823 MHz. But it routinely gets up to ~1900MHz and recently got up to 2000MHz.

The newer turbo boost checks more variables = more points to validate to make most efficient boost. As some one else mentioned I think it was the voltage control that was added besides temp and fan speed. Probably also other small changes that have to do with fanspeed curves etc.

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.
