GTX 760 to a 1050 Ti?

ThomasD

Like the title says.  Is this a reasonable upgrade for casual gaming in 1440 (Rocket League being about the most graphic intense application)?

Would like to unload the 760 while it still has some market value, but don't want to spend a whole lot on an upgrade.

You will not see a noticeable improvement. I would wait and save up for the 1060 3gb or 6gb.

5-10% max ..

the upgrade is worth only if you want a quieter and less power hungry gpu..

I would treat the 1050 Ti like a 770, give or take. It's not a huge upgrade, why not save up $50 more for a 3GB 1060?

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

1050ti is a wastage of money. Buy a rx 470(4gb) or a rx 480(4gb), they are much better with just a slight increase in price.

Yeah, I agree - the reviews I've seen are showing about a 20-30% improvement in frame rates, but nothing across any sort of noticeable improvement threshold.

The thing is I can afford a 1060 6 Gb right now, I just neither want to spend that sort of money, nor need that level of performance.  It's my wife's computer and she spends way more time playing Adventure Capitalist than anything else...

The main issue is the 760.  Right now I can still get somewhere around $60 for it on eBay, but if I wait much longer that will drop to about half.  And I do not see either the 1060s or the 470s dropping by $25-30 any time soon.  The idea is to get something that will continue to provide the same level of performance over the next couple years as the 760 has provided over the prior couple years.

I probably should have clarified that goal from the start.

that's a decent upgrade from a 760...+60% perf:

But, a GTX 1060 is where i would want to be personally...+90% perf:

Is it? I can't find bench that compares the two directly

I went by the GPU hierarchy over at toms, which while not lacking in its flaws is eeeeehhhh, good enough

yeah 1050ti is surprisingly weak...only thing that can beat it in terms of being lame is an RX 460...

470/480/1060...those are the worthy 1080p GPU...anything bellow that and you have to tweak settings left and right in hope to get 60fps at 1080p... :(

Sure but at least it's as good as a 960, right?

The MSI Gaming X turned out just faster than a R9 380 over at TPU

I would still call it a fine GPU. But with RX 470s for $20 more, not a great value.

Thanks for the input.  It's is clarifying to hear other people's thoughts.

Here's an alternate approach I could take:  My older son (definitely more intense gamer) currently has a 970 driving a 144 Hz 1080 monitor.  I  could get him a 1060 6 GB for Christmas, then slide the 970 over to my wife's rig.

Yes, the 1060 is only a marginal improvement over the 970, but I'm killing two birds with one stone.

makes sense...i would do that.

GTX 1060 6GB is like the power of a 980 but with more memory.

no way a 760 will drop to 30$ in few months, for 30$ now you can buy something like a gtx 560ti, and its like 2 years older.. so in two years the price of the 760 will drop to 30$.

for future proof it's useless to change in something like the 1050ti, the 20-30% improvent itsn't true, 1050ti it's like a 960, and a 960 is 5-10% faster than the 760.

go for 1060/470/480 or don't upgrade.
