Does the response time on a monitor affect gameplay, i need a new monitor but i dont know whether i should get one with a 1ms or 5ms response time, what is the benifit other than being slightly faster.

Response time as in grey-to-grey? It makes very little difference, if any. It's an arbitrary test done with little to no public mention of the methodology.

not a big difference until you go over 8ms (I think)
