So I'm just hanging out on my pc watching youtube videos and all the sudden my pc says that I'm running out of storage.  so I go and check how much storage I have left and it says that my ssd is full but this morning  when I turned my pc on it said I had 100gb free.  I haven't downloaded anything recently only OS updates.  when I go into the samsung magician software it still says I have free space.  what is going on here?

Current Rig=  AMD Ryzen 9 5900x, Asus Crosshair Hero VIII, EVGA RTX 3070 FTW3 ultra, 32gb Corsair Vengence Pro RGB 3000hz White, EVGA 750 P2 PSU, 1TB Samsung 980 Pro, 500gb samsung 860 evo, 250GB Samsung 850 evo, 2TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus, 2TB seagate firecuda sshd,  LianLi PC 011 Dynamic XL ROG edition, Corsair h150i elite capelix

Maybe you had some really large files in your temp directory.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Were you downloading some abnormally large files?  Or copying them to a safe location?

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Because Operating Systems have a lot of background processes doing stuff in the... um... background?

If you open Task Manager and cannot identify every process as legitimate at a glance, then there's no guarantee that something isn't writing copious amounts of Data to your SSD.

Even I don't know every process running on my system at a given moment, but when I see certain ones using certain amounts of CPU usage, I can say with 90% certainty what is reading and writing to my drives. Things like Spotify.exe, WerFault.exe, msmpeng.exe, etc. all indicate heavy hard drive activity on my system, for instance.

Use a program like WinDirStat to figure out what's eating up all that space.

This times a billion. Run WinDirStat as administrator, and know that it still won't show you how much data is in your System Volume Information folders. These folders contain System Restore data, and should never be tampered with unless you know what you're doing. System Restore can occupy quite a large portion of your drive, and can be used to um... restore your... erm... system... in the event of changes that break things. Hence it being called System restore.

Find out what's taking up the space and let us know if you figure it out!
