Hi,

this is about a Razer Blade 14" FHD from 2015. By now, that device would be almost 1.5 yrs old (bought in Singapore).

Early September, the backlight and entire keyboard and touchpad stopped working (apart from the power button).

After a lot of back and forth, Razer Europe, offered to have me send it in.

Initially, Razer (by mistake) wrote me that the display and keyboard was broken.

They also quoted me for a new keyboard and new motherboard, ~$1600.

After I asked for the reason (they just quoted $1600), they actually requoted after several weeks, saying they would 'only' have to replace the motherboard, ~$1400.

Now, I had had a working laptop (apart from the keyboard), basically a fully functional laptop - working just fine and stable gaming system with external keyboard and mouse.

And Razer is asking me to pay for their design flaws, a broken keyboard controller ?! This should never have happened, especially not after effectively 1.25 yrs of age.

And they cannot repair their own motherboards but have to have a completely new one every single time? WTF

After nearly two month without laptop, being asked to pay as much as for a used Razer Blade 14, I am speechless.

This is completely unacceptable.

Anyone feel that pain? :/

Since it's been less than 2 years and it was bought and used in EU and it's not caused by misuse, you have to pay exactly zero monies. Albeit, it's the seller that's responsible (directly to you as a consumer), not the manufacturer. Here's more: http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/shopping/guarantees-returns/index_en.htm

if you can call them up and explain things to them, then you might be able to get them to lower the amount or remove it. If you as a person didn't break it and it is a flaw from their side then they cannot charge you.

LOL the saddest thing is that you can buy a motherboard w/ 960m + 6700 HQ is about $375 on ebay. There's no way a 6700HQ mobo w/ 970m costs more than $500 USD now.

sigh...

It's just insane that they do not have a way to repair their own boards, espc for something like a f... keyboard controller. It's a very sad business model to charge the customer for a full replacement for something that should not break by itself after not even 1.5yrs

It's ok, I wasted over 4k USD on razer products. Made a bit back with reviews/exchanges/selling but I for sure lost 2k usd of that. I do like the Core, though.

Well, this lesson wasn't cheap but hey, the more you know!

I see what Razer says and just hope more people search for reviews before buying that junk.

Reviews say they're awesome. Dumb people on forums keep telling us they want thin-and-light impossible machines :( life is hard sometimes. Welcome to the enlightened club.

Good morning everyone!

After escalating to the manager, things do not change unfortunately.

I can understand your point but please take note that the KB controller is fixed part of the motherboard which cannot be exchanged separately. Therefore the repair team needs to exchange the whole MB to fix your issue.

Please let us know if you want to proceed with the repair or if we shall return your device to you. "

<rant> There you have it. I so wish right now I just had bough a Dell or something where the spare parts and repairs are very straight forward. If Razer were such a premium brand, then their shit should not just cease functioning when pretty much just out of warranty really. This is absolutely horrible and I will not have it repaired, giving them even more money. I will use with external keyboard and eventually rather buy something else. Razer will not see a single dime from me anymore (apart from the testing fee I have to pay them for their incompetence). </rant>

It's how all manufactures do it. Same thing with Apple at the Genius Bar. Some of the guys like Rossman who actually know a thing or two about motherboard repair can desolder things and resolder them back, but I'm not sure if anyone is available in your location for that for Razer. Best of luck.

Screw it.  For 1400 dollars you can find a reasonable laptop that's brand new I'd imagine.  Though I could have sworn their warranty was 2 years?  If not, just go ahead and get a new laptop if possible.  1400 dollars is far far too much to pay for a repair.
