Hello there, I'm currently looking to upgrade my current setup.

Current specs:

i5 3570k

Geforce gtx 970

8gb ram

700w power supply

p8 z77-v_lx (Socket 1155)

I was looking into maybe upgrading my cpu (Something like i7 6700k) but all the newest CPU's use the FCLGA1151 socket which I don't have.

Is it worth changing my motherboard just for this CPU upgrade?

What kind of recommendations would you give?

So would you say it's worth the price of the motherboard to one of the new i7's?

~39% increase in performance

Plus Hyperthreading

Plus DDR4 RAM (higher freq.)

Purely for gaming, I have been playing quite a lot of bf1 recently and have noticed some performance drop.

I checked the minimal specs for the game and it recommends at least a i5 6600K.

It won't hurt go upgrade to skylake... I just went from am3+ to LGA1151. The money for the upgrade was worth it because now I don't have to worry about upgrade paths for a bit (will be getting a 6700k when the price of those come down)

Have you tried overclocking your CPU? That's where I'd start.

Don't use that. Synthetic benchmarks don't really translate well to gaming performance.
