Laptop parts upgrade

Hello,

My sister goes to school again after working for a few years and she has this old laptop lying around from when she was younger. It's an old samsung laptop, quiye a small one, and specs aren't too crazy.. but it's very handy when you only need things like word and ppt. I installed windows 10 on this old thing but the laptop keeps freezing all the time because of the harddrive being at 100% load.. i'd like to swap out the harddrive and maybe also the 1gb of ram for her so she could use the laptop again but it shouldn't be too expensive, otherwise she could just buy another one.. can anyone recommend any good 2,5" hdd and laptop ram module more than 1 gb? The hdd shouldn't bee any bigger than 250 gb :) i'll post some pictures of the current state of the laptop and parts so you know what she has now :) thanks in advance!

Laptop: samsung n220 plus

Hdd: hm 250 hi (samsung)

Ram: 1 GB 2Rx16 PC2-6400S-666-12-A3

checked online, the laptop only takes 2gb of ram - theres the link for the ram above,

i strongly recommend that she get a new laptop - 2gb of ram isn't enough for running word and chrome at the same time - you're just wasting money by upgrading

Hey,

I would recommend this:

4 GB DDR3 RAM: https://www.spareit.nl/501534-001/?utm_source=beslistslimmershoppen&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=beslist

500 GB 2,5 HDD: https://www.bol.com/nl/p/western-digital-wd5000lpcx-interne-harde-schijf/9200000049722300/?suggestionType=browse

I couldnt find any 250 gb hdd, theyre rare these days.

I hope this helped you,

IgnasVas

It is a netbook. It is one of those disposable laptops that you use for 1 year and throw out because it broke or you are not broke anymore so you bought a better laptop.

It was probably about $300 new back in 2010, it is worthless and isn't worth upgrading.

He just said that it only takes 2GB of RAM...

"May your frame rates be high and your temperatures low"

I misread titles/posts way too often--correct me if I don't.

It uses SODIMM DDR2, not UDIMM DDR3 (And I doubt it supports ECC, registered memory anyway)

A few things. First, if you are hitting 100% HDD load, you should buy an SSD (but don't for this thing). Second, as @gtx1060=value informed us, it doesn't allow more than 2 GB's of RAM (really gonna hold you back these days). Also, I would block out the product key (Thx @kelvinhall05).

Bottom line:

Buy a new laptop. If you are really only using word and powerpoint, get a chromebook if you don't mind google docs and google slides.

“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

The max upgrade that you can have on that netbook would be a 2GB DDR2 RAM, and SATA3 2.5" SSD (if it supports it) because of the inferior Atom N450 inside that thing, I don't think upgrades would help you much as Windows 10 would also be struggling with that CPU because of a lot of background processes that Windows 10 has (especially after Anniversary update)
