you kidding? i5 will not stand it's own in future nextgen games with an SLI onboard. If he wants overkill i would get 2x 780TI (when they come out) as well as i7 4930k for the 6 real cores, smokes everything else.

An i5 will easily hold it's own.

Did you notice how i mentioned 4930k with this kind of budget being the only viable option?

i said i7 has hyperthreading which may help it with multi-thread optimized games, so i'd consider i7 as a baseline for any Intel hardcore gaming rig... and on top of that a 4930k which actually has 2 more real cores which is a LOT to help with any multi-threaded code.

The 4930k is not the only viable option. It's not even a good one unless you're purposely trying to use up the budget instead of just spending what you need. Even if you wanted to spend more, there are better places to spend it like better peripherals and a more beefy graphics config.

Hello my belgian neighbour! ,

I have looked at wc but it is too expensive.

What do you mean by editing?

I will probably wait for december , smth like that ..

Thanks anyway guys for your replies

If you really want to go overkill, you better have a custom water cooling loop. Otherwise, you might want to pull back and stop getting everyone excited about convincing you with different ways to blow your money.

There are much cheaper ways to have a good gaming experience so you can use your money on other things like food :)

They're talking about video editing and such--there are many people who come onto the forum asking for helping on systems for editing and gaming although very few who say they're doing editing are actually doing anything professional or intense. Even so, everyone tends to assume they are...

If you're building in december, plan later, Parts and prices change frequently.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/
Also, make sure to quote a post or tag a member when replying or else they won't get a notification that you replied to them.

Well , guys , after reading all of you suggestions i have decided to not get anything until i can get the whole build.

This would give me access to a better graphics card.

And peeps that are suggesting me to have a custom WC loop , it's not a bad idea , BUT !!! i am scared to fuck up the part where you have to set up everything

Thanks a lot guys !!

Haha, im a fan aswell off him. Shame he retired but well - would be fun to get him as a doctor later? Depending on what kinda doctor I guess...

No bonjour? Je parle francais! Mais, vouz parlez anglais svp? :D (i hate french..)

Yes well, they used to be sooo good in S2.. Sadly, S3 didn't go well for them. I can't disagree with you tho, they did not perform well. I am not to sure yet what to believe but Snoopeh posted on his fb that he and Krepo will go to dignitas? (What?) This could kinda be true. This could mean that the new EG lineup would become: Froggen, Edward (FUCK YES!), Freeze, Shookz and.. i forgot his name but something like Weaji or something haha. Will have to see

He is better then you might think. He isn't a madlife or edward in terms off plays, but he knows the game insanely well. Wich is something that doesn't show itself on screen that easy.

Altho Freeze is going to play for NiP im so confused haha. Inb4 it's all 1 big troll and Edward just joins Gambit again rofl.

I would drop the 4770K to a 4670K while dropping two Titans to two 780s.

Even then it'll be overkill and still be cheaper.

Also, get 1866MHz RAM.

Hello there !

What is the diff between the processor and ram that i have , and the ones that you are suggesting?

Care to elaborate ?

Thanks very much for your help anyway

4770K is about $100 USD more expensive. It is essentially a 4670K with hyperthreading. Hyperthreading makes 4 physical cores into 8 logical cores. However, games use physical cores. People are saying hyperthreading will be useful once the next gen consoles are coming out, but we have no confirmations on that (at least that I've read) and even then a 4670K will blow almost any game out of the water in terms of performance. I might not be explaining this the best, so someone else could probably explain it better.

780s have half the VRAM of a Titan, but perform the same in games. Might wait for a 780 Ti as it has 6GB of VRAM and is suggested to perform better than both the Titan and 780 in games.

1866MHz RAM is the best RAM for Haswell. While you're only gaming, 1866MHz RAM is only a few bucks more than 1600MHz which is perfect for gaming. 1333MHz is a noticeable drop according to people in the forum compared to 1600MHz.

Desktop: Intel i5-3570K (stock) | Asus Sabertooth Z77 | G.Skill RipJaw 16GB 1600MHz | Samsung 840 120GB | EVGA GTX 680 SC+ 2GB | Fractal Design R4 | Windows 8 Pro (soon to have dual boot Mac OS X)

Retina Macbook Pro : Intel i7-3840QM | 16GB 1600 MHz | 256GB SSD | Nvidia GT 650M 1GB | Mac OS X 10.8.5

Please dont buy this stupidly overkill system. Although this will last for a nice while its never worth it to drop 4.5k on a computer. Especially if you arent water cooling.

Hey man!

5000€ is a LOT of money. I strongly suggest that you buy a 2000€ system + monitor(s) + peripherals, and then just buy a new system in a couple of years, and keep the rest as it will all be still useable then. The extra performance you get from those last 2000€ extra will be hardly noticable, in my humble opinion that is... Just buy an 4770K and a 780 (maybe ti), and see in a couple of years if you need a whole new system or just another 780ti...

Also: why 2 monitors? 2 is really weird to look at when you are gaming (either you have 2 bezels right in front of you, or you use one just as an auxiliary display)... I would personally go with 1 or 3 displays.

Greetings from Belgium,

Stef

I don't feel like reading the whole thread, but:

- At that price point, and given how powerful that rig will be, it's a crime to only use 10080p monitors. Get yourself a nice 2560*1440 and join the elite. Then you can keep a 1080 as an auxiliary, that's a really good setup.

- Get 780's (Ti) not Titans, no one should buy a Titan unless they need the compute performance and large buffers. Part of making something overkill is to do it intelligently. Save money on the titans and use it to make something else more overkill (A nice 1440p screen perhaps?...)

- Same as my previous point for the RAM; 16 GB is overkill, 32 GB is plain useless, unless you're doing video editing or run virtual machines. You can save some money on this for...

-... a 4930K. It's a great processor, it has six cores, and powerful ones, so it'll serve you great in both single threaded and multi-threaded tasks, and flex its muscles as games hopefully start leveraging cores more and more.

CPU: Intel 3930K @ 4.6GHz || MOBO: Asus P9X79-E WS || GPU: 2x Nvidia GTX Titans || CASE: Fractal Design Define XL R2 || PSU: Corsair AX1200i

Smart! ^^ I would've made you stop so hard, that I would've very likely ran to France .. well maybe not, but god. Haha people just think because there is a 5000 budget, you better spend everything there is.. I suppose?

Hi there ! Well , i will probaly wait to see what the 780ti will look like in terms of performance. I will then make a decision accordingly.

I said that i will probably be doing some vid editing as well so ....

But at the moment , my idea is just a project.

So let's wait and see

Thanks for your advice mate

Hello ze monsieur Norway!

I have decided to take a few steps back and think a bit on the build.

do you have any suggestions about the case ? ( corsair 900D or Xilence interceptor pro)

thanks very much

Hello mister Alex ifra det solfylte landet Frankrike :) (Norwegian for: Hello monsieur alex from the sunny country of France :) )

My personal suggestion would go towards the Corsair 900D because i like it simple and clean (something Xilence interceptor pro is not ;) ), but I do believe in that you would need some more hard drives or SSDs in order to actually justify it since you can fill it with up to 15 3.5 inch HDDs and SSD strapped everywhere ;)

As long as the case can hold your hardware it is though up to subjective meanings since it´s only function is fitting the hardware and being an eyepiece :)
