4k cards?

Go to solution Solved by SMURG,

? That's not really how GPUs work lol. Any GPU will 'support' 4K resolution if it has a compatible output connector (e.g. DisplayPort). It's more about what framerate you need the game to run at for example.

www.pcgamer.com/2013/07/15/4k-gaming-early-benchmarks-reveal-the-rigs-well-need-to-play-at-ultra-resolutions/

"The elder statesman that is DiRT 3 now seems eminently capable of running on a pocket calculator at decent frame rates, so it’s no surprise to see it hitting playable frame rates at 3840 x 2160 on an AMD Radeon HD 7790. But Metro: Last Light and Sleeping Dogs (in high-res textured guise) are incredibly punishing games when the resolution is whacked up to the 4K native.

In Metro [last light] you’re looking at the dual-GPU power of an AMD HD 7990 before you can push above 30FPS, with a GTX Titan languishing around 21FPS. Still, at that resolution you can actually see some decent scaling from multiple GTX Titans. If you’ve enough spare cash enough to be able to afford a 4K monitor right now, you might be able to drop another few grand on graphics cards."

The take-home from this is that you essentially need a 7990 or a 690 or Titan SLI at least - and even then you're limited to 30fps even if you do manage to find a 60Hz 4K monitor.

I was looking for a chart, list or anything that is simplified based on results, for graphic cards that support 4k based on level of detail before lag induces, price point, and anything else that can be used to factor the results.

so for instance:

GTX 780: supported - max rendering - $$$$

just something that I can glance at in 30 seconds and understand instead of watching a video or a 10 page report from some dude out in the boonies.

If you want to get into 4K gaming, the answer is to wait. If you want to early adopt these things, you are going to spend buttloads (dual Titan sound good to your budget?) and not only that, but your performance will be outclassed in 1-2 years by a single budget GPU.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

I had forgotten i posted this this morning. not sure where my brain was at the moment. either way the information provided answer my question perfectly. Thanks! Im getting eager for start 4k gaming. I just wish that ASUS monitor would drop to $500 already. I mean the Ipad mini is getting 2048 x 1536 and 326ppi screen.  :o
