Node 202 owners- strong enough panel for placing an LCD on top?

Considering this build, if the case is strong enough to sit horizontally and have my LCD on top of it. Anyone that owns this case, is it strong enough for this?

I don't own one (yet), but I can tell you just by looking at it that it should be able to hold at least 15 pounds no problem.

I do own the Node 202 and i would not do it. The shell is made entirely of plastic and will therefore not support that much weight. I would say maybe 2-3 kgs.

Yes the panels are plastic, but the internal frame is aluminium (or some other metal).

Don't do it. I wouldn't trust my Node 202 with 12lbs.

There's a metal plate beneath the top cover but I don't think it contacts anything besides the brace.

If you put a monitor on top. It might block the cooling of the CPU.

 

Also, the case doesn't support big air cooler. Small cooler will have difficulty to handle any overclocking of your 6700K. Is it a bit of a waste to use a K processor for this build?

Just want the 4Ghz stock. Not OCing, not a financially limited build. If I can't put my LCD on top (to save space), probably won't do it at all.

There are advantages to a K-series chip that go beyond overclocking.

No, I have 3 of those LCDs I linked on a fairly large desk. And a laptop+dock here too. I also use 2 mice (left and right hand side of my keyboard). No extra space and I don't want another tower or machine on the floor. There's barely space for my speakers.

That case looked like the best built horizontal case on the market that wasn't one of the massive Silverstone HTPC cases.

GPU will probably be GF1060 6GB with blower style cooling. Was undecided on 1060 vs other options there.

Have you looked at some monitor trees? Mount-it makes one that attaches to the desk if you're willing to shop for a bolt at your hardware store.

Monitor arm is another option, I wish someone made a sturdy desktop-style case (that isn't horrendously ugly) still so I had both options. I guess I'm still stuck in the 80s but sitting your monitor on your case makes some sense and I don't think there's even a choice to do that now.

Since you have three of the same the tree will help keep them level. DIYPC makes a good metal case but it's about the size of a Betamax.

I have custom stands for them right now, was planning on looking at the arm idea down the road when I moved to a standing desk.

It doesn't sound like anyone has any faith in using the Node202 this way, so I'll go with my plan b here. Which was the Skull Canyon NUC which will fit my needs mounted on the back of my LCD. Thanks everyone. If anyone has more info on the Node feel free to chime in. I knew it was borderline on being able to hold an LCD, is a shame.

That will be very interesting to hear, though the fact there's a metal plate behind a plastic shell doesn't sound good. I thought those were solid steel panels all around, those molded plastic edges should bend a lot over time. Though that metal brace in the middle might make up the difference (that was always my hope with the 202) if they were plastic as reported here.

I never thought I'd miss the days when cases were weapons.

I weighed an extra Asus 27" LED backlit LCD I had sitting here unused, weighs 5.1kg (11.2lb). I think this is going to be ballpark for my 24" with the stand I'm using. I stand by my original 12lb estimate.

I weighed my LG 22MP55 and no issues but it feels like 6lbs.

I weighed my LG 34" ultrawide and no issues and I think it weighs 15lbs.

No flex (or possible flex over time) with the 34"? I would not likely ever use anything larger than my 27" Asus so I think your ultrawide is a good worst-case scenario.
