I'd recommend it, the S4 is really easy to root, install CWM and then put CyanogenMod on it. I've been running it since day 2 of having my S4.

first

which S4 version do u have

if u have an octacore version then do not install CM its in alpha

but if u have snapdragon 600 go for it

or even BETTER

install the google edition version which is BUG FREE !!!!

ive dealt with these "stable" releases before

feels like a nightly to me

would rather go with 4.3 google edition vs 4.2 CM10.1 anyways  since it has TRIM support

Once you've installed a custom rom such as CyanogenMod you can easily install other roms

I got it on my S3 LTE... instant boosted performance, plus I can switch to 2G only which works better in my area... WIN WIN!!! I actually haven't found any glitches yet (touch wood)...

Intel Core I5-3570K @ 4.4GHz, AMD Radeon HD6950, Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe motherboard, 8GB DDR3 Corsair RAM, Corsair H100, 60GB Agility3 OS drive + 1TB WD Blue drive.

I use this rig mainly for facebook and emails. Pointless effort to be honest!
