Smartwatches arn't the future

ARRGGHHH just deleted all this information, here we go again.
As much as smart watches are awesome they have thier limits.
since the wan show the smartwatch idea was first propositioned, ive been thinking theres a better option.
Im calling it the gauntlet, As you can imagine its like a gauntlet worn on the forearm, unlike a smart watch you can browse the web, watch youtube/videos, read and reply to text and because of the extra battery you get compared to a watch theres minimal battery life penalty.
heres my proposed specs of a guantlet.
cpu dual cortex a7@800mhz
ram-512mb dual channel.
touch screen-slightly curved 3.5inch diagonal 16:9 480x854 (1.72inch tall, 3.05in long) 4in version available
battery-1500mah, 3.7v
5mp camera
storage-4gb built in+sd card slot
Seeing how most people use laptops at home now and people use tablets out and about instead, with phones getting bigger and more powerful they will likely wipe out tablets, why carry a 7in tablet in your bag when you 5-5.5inch smartphone can do everything just as well in your pocket.
you can then do your demanding tasks such as pre-youtube video edits and gaming while waiting for a train on your phablet.
but rather than using up your phablets battery life to do your light tasks like texting and browsing use your gauntlet instead which is synced with your android phone.

"but i need 2 arms to browse", no you need 1 arm to hold your phone and one to use it, with the gantlet you could write a reply text or change the song playing while still having a hand free (for driving, holding shopping etc)

with screen rotate it is ambidextrous and is secured using breathable elastic (with holes to promote airflow and prevent arm sweat) and secured with velcro to accommodate various arm sizes (if you work out for instance) and there is a 4 inch 720p version for those with REALLY big arms or who might like more screen real-estate.

gauntlet 1

heres my idea. forgive my white arms, I'm a gamer...
not a clue on pricing, i'm no manufacturer

NO, lol just wanted this spot I'll type more

Edit--

I do not like your example of a smartwatch because you are than having the 'watch/armband" replacing the phone itself for many tasks. You say don't need 1 arm to hold and 1 to browse, I have a Note2 and I use both hands 4 fingers on each to hold and my thumbs to type and operate the phone most of the time, makes it much easier.

Between a 5.5" note 2 and a 7" tablet, the tablet is so much larger they are not even in the same category, so larger phones will not be replacing tablets any time soon.

Reasons I don't think that will work is a few. Typing on it will not be good enough and currently speech recognition is no where near good enough to allow just voice recognition for texting or anything else that requires the keyboard. Typing a lot or long text message will be more annoying having to do it all with 1 hand in landscape.

Gaming, Yes I and many others game on out phones. That would not work on this because of just being able to use 1 hand. Some games, and most new games require the use of 2 hands to work the game. This would limit that for sure.

Watching video's would suck because the speaker would be the shittiest thing ever made. So showing a video to a group would suck as it would be either very quiet or very distorted.

Now, now I'm not shitting on the idea at all. This is a good idea. But I don't see it working. Keep this idea and improve on it. Take feedback from me and others and improve on it. This could be the future (more than google glass because I don't want to have to wear that if I don't need to it's pointless. Give me a ear piece with turn by turn directions instead, I'd rather that than glasses without any glass, I'm not a hipster).

Half arm taken by a weird-ass computer. I would prefer glasses (more advanced than google ones) to be black tinted yet have some small OS running and image showing on the glass itself. To type it would gesture and onscreen keyboard shown some further away.

Althought smartwatches arent the future. I havent seen anyone with one of those yet...

Smart watches and any other wrist mounted tech is just fucking stupid, it's literally saying "I'm too connected to my phone that it has to be on my wrist in sight constantly"

That is when they become popular which they will, as of now it gets a pass as experiment tech for tech guys.

personal taste, i tend to browse and text faster (and pinch to zoom and so on) while holding my phone in 1 hand and the other hand using the phone, maybe im a heavy user.

5.5in vs 7 inch, thats like saying why get a 7 inch tablet when a 10 inch is better-portability a whopping great big backpack you need to carry a tablet isnt cool, most 5.5in phone still fit in the average jean pockets (unless we're talkign skinny jeans but thats a differnt type of user).

"Typing on it will not be good enough"-it wouldnt be much differnt to say a galaxy ace 2 or a galaxy ace...nobody ever complained about them.

You would game on your phone-not this, this would save your phones battery life by not having to use your phone as much for menial tasks.

Showing a video would suck? not many people bunch up together to use thier phone as a home cinema, it is for you to watch a video or you could show it to them just as easy as you showing someone the time plus with rotate you'd just be pointing the top of your arm to them, no twisted wrists or anything (imagine being norman/roman and holding a shield) and as we've seen with the htc one, forward facing speakers don't suck, that said in my design i never included speakers but thanks for the tip :D.

Then you're obviously not the market and maybe you dont get text messeges often or maybe you have nothing important to do day to day...

Most people will pull thier phone out once in a while to see if they have had a text or missed call, this on a large quad core device is a bit of a waste. (I don't call or text ever but its good to be aware of whats on).

I make calls on skype, and i get texts with a desktop application.

i really have no use for a phone outside of carrying it around for a GPS maps thingy when i want to find some place.

I hate cellphones.

Not to sound rude but you are adding absolutely nothing to this conversation so...

Maybe you should get an actual friend and leave your house and you might have a reason to text on a phone instead of texting at your computer.

Like OP said. This isn't for you. You seems to only sit at home and play on your computer. Phones are for people who go outside in the real world and want to communicate. You can't talk to your friend to make plans while your at the mall from your desktop.

I love it, everyone going round with gadget-glasses doing random dances in the street to navigate menu's lmao.

Better than having to show half of an arm on -10 or -20*C in winter or have a great white spot after some sun in summer.

We dont need all this junk. We are far too over connected with all these stupid repetative gadgets. We didnt need smart phones or smart watches 10yrs ago, why do we need them now. Theres such a preoccupation with being constantly connected and informed of every daily event.

if you dont want it, dont buy it. simple as that.

My response to any of this is

We never had

computer, phones, electricity, cars, bikes, indoor plumbing, farm equipment, paved roads, internet, video games, card games, modern medicine, Etc, etc, etc

2000+ years ago

So why on earth do we need it now?? Why did we need any of those thing. I miss the good old 2k+ years ago days.

Where you never knew people outside your town/city, never traveled, died of easily curable diseases. God those were the good times.

It's not about being connected at all times. You have a phone now, are you always connected? No you can put it down. If you have a smart watch you can disable it when you want or not respond. That's the amazing thing. Just because you receive a message it doesn't mean you have to answer or respond, you can ignore it and continue on with your day.

"We dont need all this junk"-agree'd, most people dont need more than a core 2 duo and 2gb of ram but its the world we live in unfortunately. you can either accept it and embrace it, possibly make your life better by doing more with your time and having more options open to you or you can either live in a cabin in the woods (I like that idea just as much).

I like the idea (duh) and i know that with how the world is changing its quite likely to catch on (either that or im ahead of its time). theres plenty of people making the gauntlets batman wears which serve no purpose other than comicon and the comic shop that just opened near me (I dont get teh comic culture) sells the assasins creed brotherhood gauntlets for £40 with retractable blades.....yeah i think id save to buy my gauntlets which would actually do something.

1.Just expressing my viewpoint buddy.

2.its like having more than 1 car when your the only 1 who can drive. They all function the same so really you wouldn't need something else that does the same thing would you. Sure you can disable it or not respond to it, but if your going to do that...whats the point in having it?

1. I get that but it's not a good argument. There are better ways to say it, but asking why you need something isn't right. We need it because it lead to new things that will improve our lifestyles.

2. Having 2 cars is because you have 2 separate vehicles for different circumstances. Truck for winter, car for summer. This is somewhat the same thing. You use it for different situations.

1. I see where your coming from there. Perhaps ill put it in terms of want as opposed to need. Will you be able to do what you did before without this new product? Will I be able to write a document on my laptop without an iPad..yes. Will I be able to send that document to my email without an iPad..yes. I think its important to ask why you need something, otherwise your just giving into the advertising industry don't you think? If someone can tell me how having a smart watch will improve my life and time, than I will go out and get one. But as stated earlier, in there current form, smart watches only take whats in your pocket and put it on your wrist. Its not adding to anything we don't already have you know. That's just me guys.

2. Yes I agree again, for vehicles thats correct. The smartwatch though doesn't have a different purpose compared to any other mobile device. It has as stated before GPS/EMAIL/FACEBOOK/TWITTER/IE/TXT/TIME those things any mobile device has. People who have reviewed them have even stated that, that its just a smartphone on your wrist. Lets face it, you see it every time theirs a new APPLE product, people line up to have the "latest", that's pretty much all its about is having the very latest even though the improvements a minimal at best.

I get it, if you don't like it don't buy. If your going to however tote something as being a revolutionary breakthrough or something that's going to save us time and improve our lives..than release such a product that fulfills those ambitions. I don't know what they could create in a smartwatch, I have no idea. Everything they are doing has already been done, again and again and again. Maybe I have no imagination, but Im sitting here trying to think what a smartwatch could possible offer me from what I already have...and I cant think of anything. Im sure in the future they will have there place, individually there's, but currently they don't. I guess that's the whole case Im trying to plead here.

1. Were you able to travel places before the Combustion Engine? Yes.

I get what you are saying though.

While this isn't for everyone this will lead to new things. Computer to phone, phone, to smartwatch/glass, smartwatch/glass to ?. That is what we are waiting for. It is required to be an introduction in the next product.

2. No smartwatches do not, imo, have a different function than what a phone can currently do, they offer what you already have but at a convenience. But does a remote offer anything a TV can't do? No, it just makes things easier.

I'm not trying to shit on every idea you have I am just trying to say, Hey this isn't for everyone, same with glass, but it is a important step to what the future might hold.

Read that if you want but you only have to answer this if you want to because I think this might be more important. Do you think wearable tech will be the future?

To me, this is the dumbest idea ever. First, I personally use 2 hands to text, sometimes 1, but most of the time 2 hands. I only like the idea of a smart watch because, I like to see if texts are important to answer right away or not and not having to get my phone out of my pocket to check. I would hate to have such a large device on my arm because then it will become heavy and texting will be way to awkward. Calling would be so much worse to do since you would have to have it on speaker and everyone can hear you then, I love my privacy on that and I don't want no one to know my business. To me, a smart watch is to make something a little more convenient to use without have to talk a few more seconds to pull a phone out of the pocket and check time and/or texts. I couldn't ever see me wearing the "Gauntlet" because it just way to awkward looking and seems like it makes things more difficult to use (for me). yeah sure people have opinions about this but I'm one for thinking the is really dumb. "Opinion is the medium between knowledge and ignorance," and to me this is ignorance.

NFL quarter backs have something similar but only static images of plays. Now we all know how much football players are brainiacs that they require a cheat sheet for their jobs.  Now move it to regular folks, who will end up wearing one of those, the yellow book club of the month members that's who.
