A Z170 motherboard won't work with that.

The ASRock X99 Taichi or the ASUS X99-A II are both good black and white choices.

Over 9000.

The Z97 is currently just sitting on a shelf, waiting for me to get the test bench ready. I need a 4790k tho :/

I have i7 4790k :P

And I kinda don't like it. Intel should solder all unlocked (K) chips to IHS. But they used some cheap TIM instead, resulting in overheating on this CPU.

You should use i7 6800k at a test bench. That CPU is sick!

Well, since I already have the Z97 S it wouldn't make much sense to get myself a 2011-3 board just for the test bench.

What do you use for cooling?

I was considering to take a H105 I've lying around.

Check my signature. That's what I'm using xD

Custom water loop from EKWB.

And before you say that I might have done something wrong with my loop ... GPU is in the same loop and is schilling at 45°C under full load for hours and hours of usage.

And GPU have that low temperature even if it's cooled after CPU. So cold water first comes from radiator to CPU and then to GPU. So if it would be in reverse, GPU would have even lower temps.

That CPU is just bad :\

A friend of mine has a 4790k and runs it under a CM240 liquid cooler. Not sure what his temps are, but definitely fine on stock settings.

Intel has improved the TIM on the 4790 compared for the 4770 so I really can't understand why you get such temperatures.

Whats your voltage and overclock?

Stock voltage (1,287 or something like that) and 4,5GHz on all cores.

If I put it to stock (4,2GHz on all cores) temps are maybe 5°C lower.

Trust me, I tried everything already to improve my CPU temps but I alwways hit a dead end.

Only 1 thing is left: delidding

But I don't want to do that ... I don't trust myself enough to open up 380€ worth CPU lol

I think there is a delidding tool made by der8auer for Haswell and Skylake CPUs.

Yeah I was looking at that, but it's 70€ +15€ shipping if I try to order it.

And there were still some reports from users that this thing broke CPU and made it unusable.

And I would also need to buy some crazy TIM for 20€ ... liquid metal or something.

So it would cost me around 100€ or even a bit more to try that.

So I decided to use my CPU at 4,5GHz and let it go to 75-80°C from time to time, untill I save up some money and buy i7 6800k CPU with X99 motherboard.

Yeah, its pretty expensive.

Its crazy that there is such a large difference between Haswell and Skylake.

My 6700k is currently under a small air cooler from Arctic with two bq SW2 attached, and it never even hits 60°C.

Was really surprised.

Try Aida64 with CPU + FPU + cache stress testing.

I'm wondering what temps you get with that.

Will do that as soon as I'm home. For how long?

around 10min, then tell me what was highest temp and what's average temp.

Mine goes up to 82°C on 2 cores, other 2 cores at max 80°C. But most of the time is jumping from 70 to 78°C.

I guess that is not bad for a bad ventilated case and an Arctic Freezer i32
(not overclocked btw)

-snip-

91°C on one core ... that FPU and cache stress test realy is pure cancer.

Seems like Intel is not soldering i7 6700k also ...

Did some research and it looks like only CPUs for 2011 socket are soldered to IHS.
