There is a way! But it will probably be sloppy, and ugly. I wouldn't recommend it unless you know what you're doing or have the money to experiment on a possible failure.

Yes, it's 2871 as in the year 2871. I traveled all this way, back in time, just to help you. And you thought your mama lied when she said you were special-_-

Very unlikely, as laptop chassis are not designed for modularity, or even complete deconstruction. Plus, many of the newer laptops have CPUs + RAM soldered to their motherboard.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Nope. This was a thing years ago where companies would seek very expensive barebones(chassi, display, keyboard, trackpad, mobo) for high amounts of money and you could buy your own CPU ram gpu and storage. This hasn't been a thing in a years though.

Yes there has. All the Clevo barebones are like that.

Look on RJTech. Currently the barebone laptops are:

MSI 16L13

Clevo P750DM2

Clevo P775DM2

Clevo P870DM3

These have confirmed upgradability to Kaby Lake.

Unfortunately all the barebones laptop specced out will arrive past 2k+ because that's the audience.

I honestly didn't know these things still existed. Either way, unless you REALLY want to have a custom laptop, just buy a normal laptop.

Tear apart the laptop and create your own laptop sized case, add a monitor to it... you know, like a makeshift laptop.
