this is my current list so far:

case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811553018&ignorebbr=1

HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236339&ignorebbr=1

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438016&ignorebbr=1

cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=2MN-0004-00002&ignorebbr=1

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125910&ignorebbr=1

total is $518, I could cut down the HDD to $500GB and wait on the XFX RX 470 sell for $10 cheaper than the Gigabyte one when it is instock.

What do you think of my current list so far? I was thinking about getting the AMD X4 860k or 880k but im not sure between them and i3 6100, which would be better, im thinking i3 6100 is since they have more review. Will there be any bottle necking between the any of those CPU and the RX 470? and for the Ram, is one 8GB stick ok or should I go with 2 x 4GB?

thank you

Snip

an i3 6100 has no chance of bottlenecking a 470 assuming you play at any reasonable level of graphic settings. one 8GB stick of RAM is smarter to buy since it allows for a cheaper upgrade to 16GB later, and going 2x4 will not give any appreciable performance difference over a single stick. I would not buy AMD CPU at this time if you can afford intel, as the i3 6100 has a pretty awesome upgrade path (you will have all of skylake and upcoming kaby lake to choose from if you decide to upgrade). your PSU choice is meh, but you can't afford much better on your budget. see if you can get a CX450M from Corsair (grey label) if you can afford it though. Maybe drop from a 470 to a 1050ti if you need to make the budget work, although the 470 is the better card.

His build for 500$ is great, I just pointed out the fact that kaby lake is comming, and gtx 1050 ti will be avaliable for customers soon.

In his build it won't make much difference. maybe 10% more performance but for 10% higher price :)

His build list is as good as it gets if you ask me.

Switch out the 2x4 for a 1x8 and this is what you'd want to go for. Very nice touch of the z170 in there for future OC

how is the GTX 1050ti compare to the old R9 280x?

The R9 280X will be slightly faster than the 1050Ti

but draws a lot more power and produce more heat

the i3 runs cool even at turbo boost mode

you dont need a CPU cooler, the stock cooler will be fine

cool, the reason i asked is because I have an R9 280X, I think it's pretty good and wondering how well does the 1050Ti and RX 470 compare to it.

If you have a 280x, there's no reason to upgrade to those cards. Get a 1060 6GB if you want significant improvement.

Remove the GPU from your list and get an i5-6500 and 250gb SSD.

a 280x performs in the middle, if you already have it then skip the gpu and get an i5 6400/6500, ssd and high wattage psu.

I wouldn't recommend any of these builds in this thread if you plan to upgrade single items or OC (including my build). This build is great to start with and then sell or gift away when you're ready to spend $1500 for top tier. It allows good FPS for the price at med-high settings in most games. i3-6100 won't bottleneck any of these budget cards so I went with it. Motherboard is cheap and gets the job done. It is a microatx. It has all the features you need for budget builds but no overclocking which is fine since you'll need to upgrade your cooling and cpu. Memory is pretty cheap and has a good speed, Kingston makes solid products and they look nice for the price. Went with 2 sticks to divide up the work and getting 1 8gb stick with the plan to get another later is stupid since these builds don't intend to transfer parts to better builds. The standard WD HDD 1tb included in every build was chosen. You can also throw in a Samsung SSD 250gb for $100. SSD can be kept for later builds and provides quick startups and load times. For the video card I went with RX 460 2gb. The FPS difference between 2gb and 4gb is 1-2 frames and only reason to go with 4gb is if you're going to stream. Most people went with GTX 1050 ti but it would be better to go with a RX 470 at that point. The 1050 ti video that Luke made during the benchmarks showed the RX 470 beat the 1050 ti by 20-30 FPS. AMD is reducing the MSRP by $10 so it will be about a $30 difference between the two cards. The case you can go with anything but this case is cheap and its adequate for this build. It's a minitower but the motherboard fits. I chose this case over others since it includes 2 fans. 1 rear 80mm and 1 front 120mm. Power supply usually costs $50 but it currently has a $20 promo. Corsair makes solid power supplies and 500w is more than enough for this build. If you're going to purchase this build and have amazon prime always check their prices on their site (usually price match and get the same rebates). Newegg has the RX 460 for $110 subtracted $10 for rebate and adds $5 shipping. Amazon has RX 460 for $110 but also has $10 rebate if you check the actual listing and with prime you would get free 2 day shipping.
