4k media player

DocYoda

Hi I have a sony x850D 4k tv and a QNAP nas. Any suggestions for a good 4k media player? I intend to connect my nas thru the media player by LAN to access the files and view the movies from the tv via hdmi. Most of the media players have rj45 ports, can I access files thru lan from the NAS drives? Are these good players... himedia h8 plus... himedia q5 pro.. I am lost here... I am really new on this stuff. Tia

The 4K Chromecast doesn't have Ethernet but it does have WLAN.

Yes, it's 2871 as in the year 2871. I traveled all this way, back in time, just to help you. And you thought your mama lied when she said you were special-_-

The 850D has Android TV built in. So have you considered running a Plex server or something similar on your NAS (and then not needing any additional hardware for the tv)?

I have around 15+ TB of bluray rips and other media stuff. I want to access my files locally. I find uploading to a plex server a bit of a hassle.

You don't have to upload anything. You just run a Plex server on your NAS and give it access to the drive that has all the movies on it.

OK, there's so many options, but I think your main options are:-

a) Nvidia shield TV  approx $170?

b) Cheaper android boxes such as the NEXBOX  https://www.amazon.ca/NEXBOX-2G-16G-Pre-installed-Streaming/dp/B01JO5B690/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1475772414&sr=8-7&keywords=4k+android+tv+box

c) Even cheaper android boxes.
