3rd party iPhone screen repair

My girlfriend smashed her iPhone 6 screen today, she wants to go get it replaced by one of those repair shops in the middle of shopping centers but i remembered there was that issue where 3rd party replacements ended up breaking the fingerprint scanner or bricking the phone

Is this still an issue and should she go to apple directly ?

If its just changing the screen only, then I think its fine. If they are going to change the home button, that that will be an issue of bricking the phone

You can do the job yourself, just use Youtube and buy whats needed.
