So.... My stock cooler that came with my Dell computer is pretty bad and when I upgraded to a Core 2 Quad the temperatures skyrocketed and was at 70 Degrees Celsius which was not safe for my CPU because the max temperature should only be 72 Degrees Celsius. When i'm gaming or doing some CPU intensive tasks, the temperatures go even higher and reaches above the max temperature which is obviously not safe for the CPU and will decrease the lifespan.

My question is; do you guys know any CPU cooler mods that will help with that? Currently, I don't have any money so getting new hardware(fans, heatsinks, etc) will not be the way to go. I just need to lower my temperatures. Thank you in advance!

Only thing that comes to mind is remounting it and see if it gets better. Other than that, it's just 70°C really lol.

It's not like it'll kill your PC in 5mins. I had a C2D run at 90°C and it still lives.

Keep the case open, so the (hot) air will leave your system more quickly. If you don't want to go that route, you could also do some cablemanagement. Sometimes cables will hinder the airflow, causing higher temps. If your case has a stock fan, you might be able to add it ontop of your CPU, but then again, you will not push out the hot air out of your case that quickly.

Otherwise, upgrades and mods cost some money. You could try to replace the thermal compound between your CPU and your cooling block. You could also replace or add a cheap single (case) fan. (more airflow = better) Or you could just go and find a used larger CPU cooling block. But that costs money...

I am an AMD fanboy, so I am not sure, but maybe there are some voltage settings, to make your CPU consume less power?

I don't like the higher temps because it ruins the gaming experience with this loud fan in your ear. I just want to cool this damn beast down.

I tried undervolting but that isn't enough to lower the temps signifigantly and I even put the power options to around min: 75% and max: 85% so that is hindering my CPU performance but that is the only route to go unless miracle happens. Also, the case is already open because my GPU is too big for the case.

Huh. Not sure what to tell you then. Those temps seem a high for a stock cooler non OCed. how many case fans do you have? You can maybe move a case fan and ziptie it to the cooler on top of the stock fan to increase airflow. Ghetto, but it may lower temps.

Another point to mention:

I have an extra case fan lying around in there and I don't really know where to put it for optimal cooling. I tried putting it directly on top of the CPU cooler and on the sides of it but that isn't enough either.

idk man get creative. Just look around for cheap or free rigs and rip the cooler out. Or find a super cheap or free cooler that fits on your socket and see what happens

Dumpster diving : ) The recycling area, where I live, have dedicated electronics dumpsters so you don't get dirty. People throw out a lot of C2D computers here...

I got a working GA-P31 Q9450 and 6 GB DDR2 a HD5750 with a Noctua 120mm cooler in one find...

Can you find a recycling facility and ask them if you can take a cooler from a computer?

BTW I noticed that the cooler for this CPU has a copper core that the other coolers of older processors didn't have.

If it is dirty it will lower the cooling potential, try washing it after you remove the fan, if it is visibly dirty.

IIRC some Dell's have fan ducts, maybe it got misaligned?
