I'm looking to buy my first gaming pc. I'm not very knowledgeable about building them myself but I have done research about what components are good and which aren't. I think I want to go with an nvidia GPU and an intel CPU. I want it to be capable of 1440p with no trouble but I would also like to keep it around the $1200 mark give or take. Any tips on which site to get it from and build components? I've been looking on cyberpower pc but I'm open to suggestions.  Thanks

You should seriously consider building it yourself. You will save yourself tons of money. As for parts, probably something like an i5-6600K and a GTX 1070 is what you'll want to be looking for

My Build, v2.1 --- CPU: i7-8700K @ 5.2GHz/1.288v || MoBo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming || RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2666 14-14-14-33 || Cooler: Custom Loop || GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black, on water || PSU: EVGA G2 850W || Case: Corsair 450D || SSD: 850 Evo 250GB, Intel 660p 2TB || Storage: WD Blue 2TB || G502 & Glorious PCGR Fully Custom 80% Keyboard || MX34VQ, PG278Q, PB278Q

Audio --- Headphones: Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX || Amp: Schiit Audio Magni 3 || DAC: Schiit Audio Modi 3 || Mic: Blue Yeti

Is the 6600k worth it vs the 6500? The gtx 1070 was what I was leaning towards. I don't have any experience with building one. I would hate to burn the house down. Lol but it doesn't seem too hard I guess.

The 6600K is only worth it over the 6600 if you plan to overclock. Keep in mind if you want to oveclock, you need to get a Z170A chipset motherboard or you won't be able to overclock.

As for GPU, the 1070 will handle 1440p easily, I have one.

There's a couple of other things you need to take into account. You need to pick a case ( We can't pick that one for you, you should pick something that looks nice from a good brand like Corsair, NZXT, Be Quiet or Phanteks ).

Also, if you want a color scheme you should probally say that too so we can find parts that suit your scheme.

Main Rig

CPU: Ryzen 2700X
Cooler: Corsair H150i PRO RGB 360mm Liquid Cooler
Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair VII Hero
RAM: 16GB (2x8) Trident Z RGB 3200MHZ
SSD: Samsung 960 EVO NVME SSD 1TB, Intel 1TB NVME

Graphics Card: Asus ROG Strix GTX 1080Ti OC

Case: Phanteks Evolv X
Power Supply: Corsair HX1000i Platinum-Rated

Radiator Fans: 3x Corsair ML120
Case Fans: 4x be quiet! Silent Wings 3

the build @herman mcpootis posted looks great. If you overclock the 6600K you will see some great benefits. Remember, we all have to start building PCs from somewhere. You know how I built my first PC? I watched a bunch of youtube videos lol. Andthen I put $2000 worth of electronics together. It took me a while but it was really fun, I learned a lot, and hey, I built this. Not a lot of people can say that (except for most everyone on the forum lol)

You're right. I think I will build it myself. If I choose to overclock it will I need a better cooler? And will I need a bigger power supply?

Good deal man. I like corsair brand stuff and the nzxt stuff looks really good. This being my first one I'm not too worried about the color scheme. If I like it much better than console gaming I'll eventually go all out in a couple of years.  But for this one I would like to keep it simple and cost efficient. What CPU do you have?

No, the cooler he listed is good for overclocking and so is the PSU

the h5 is fine for a decent overclock and the GQ is of very good quality and more than enough wattage.

I'm actually going to stick with that exact build you suggested everything looks good. Can you recommend a good 1440 monitor? The one I have is 1080

I have an I7 6700K clocked at 4.6GHZ. CPU isn't as important for resolution as a GPU is ( as logistics doesn't really scale with resolution ) , so the I5 will be " okay " at 1440.

Generally, you go for an I7 if you are making use of the " hyperthreading " which is ( SORT OF ) like having 4 extra virtual cores. As some games wouldn't use the extra power an I7 gives, sometimes it's not worth it. If you are doing other things other then gaming like video editing , streaming, server hosting etc, then an i7 is worth it.

Also, in regards to color scheme, I just say that because it's always nice to have a color scheme. It makes you feel alot more rewarded when you finish the build, and you feel like you spent your money well. Take my build for example :

Thanks. Well, in the UK parts are more expensive, I spent around £1400 ( but our currency has fallen since then ).

I think you could build a similar system in the US for 1300-1400.
