Computer Engineering Major?

So I am going to be starting college soon and I don't fully understand which major j should go into. I was thinking computer engineering with a focus on security or networking. I currently plan to attend the University of Austin Texas as they rank as one of the highest rated technology schools in world. Apart from the obvious MIT, Stanford, and so on. I have also toured the campus and talked to financial aid people there so I know what to expect for the pricing of everything. Does this sound like a good plan? Also I know computer engineering is going to be more difficult then one might think. My sister is currently doing the same at he university of Miami and the physics she is learning is pretty advanced.

I work in IT now in a company that specializes in security, networking, backups and archiving of data in various ways and I gotta say this stuff is more interesting than one might think. Huge companies such as Cisco, EMC, Veritas are among our partners and the business in general is huge, there will always be need for those services, perhaps now even more than ever so I can fully recommend that field of education for you. The only question is whether you find this stuff interesting :)

ask yourself this first, do you see yourself doing that type of work for the rest of your life?
I personally would suggest entering a step lower first unless you are certain that you are able to move through it with high grades, since companies are more and more clinging to those (meaningless imo) numbers, how bigger the company how bigger their demand on that, no matter how good your college is, if your grades aren't up to their requests it might be quite a problem.

I also want to be in the tech field but the college courses seem pretty intense.

Or you can do Electrical Engineering with some software courses and apply to NVdia, AMD, Intel, Altera etc. since you like computers (which is obvious youre in LTT forum). I just recently got an offer from one of those companies as an engineer starting soon. :)  (My firstish engineering job after graduation) Pay is good, I like LTT and most of my work is putting in hardware and validating xD. Stuff all of us in this forum already like haha

I sorta want to do it all which is bad for majoring in something. That's why I am asking here. I do know some electrical engineers and what they sorta due. Obviously you can branch it to say power line or to computer or other areas

That's not necessarily bad, however what that would tell me is to not expect someone to be highly motivated to help you. That being said, teacher's can be different in office hours, and not stuck within a classroom

I know, I love the city. I feel like if someone is motivated enough to truly want to learn they will take time out of their schedule to fit a teachers or maybe study more then party. Which sorry I plan to party 0. Maybe only a LAN party

I love my current school, carnegie mellon. And I am doing computer engineering. So, compe, or the compe part of ece here is focused on system verilog and fpgas. Ece also covers low level embeded systems coding and circuit layouts. I knew I wanted to make cpus so I did ece. But look up system verilog, (or vhdl) and play around
