otherwise get an FX 8300

Skyrim used to only use 2 threads, but it looks like the new version will use up to 8 given it has an i7/FX 8 core as recommended

Hey all, I'm just getting my feet wet in building and was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions for a new CPU. I have been gradually been replacing components in a used Inspiron 570 that I grabbed on the cheap. Here are my current specs as I remember them:

Amd Athlon II X2-250 with the cheapest cooler I could find lol

Asus 970 aura

6GB ddr3 1300mhz Kingston (2009)

MSI Radeon R7 370 4GB

500W Thermaltake PSU

60GB OCZ boot drive

1TB WD blue 2013 HDD

Now I'd like to upgrade the CPU,  if you all would recommend it, to a cost effective (sub 150) and more recent architecture. I intend this PC for gaming (hopefully maxing out skyrim special edition when it comes out) and for using the Adobe suite to create media (after effects and illustrator). I know I need to upgrade the ram as multitasking is painful compared to my  Msi gt60 (4th Gen i7 4700mq with 16gb ram)

Any suggestions?

Not to be a drag but socket am3 is rather old and it probably wouldn't be worth your money to buy a new processor for it.

It is an am3+ board it will support the fx series cpu (minus the 9xxx series).

you've already spent money on that Asus Motherboard, so does that mean you plan on sticking with AMD cpu?
8350 or 8370 for sure,

AMD cpu will be more than enough for gaming
but for adobe apps i dont know if they will perform as well as intel CPU's - which would mean spending money on a new motherbaord

My bad, the cpu he listed is an am3 cpu so I assumed his board was also.

I was aware of that much, I thought he had an am3 board. Glad you corrected me though.

Need suggestions. I want to buy an intel i5-4950 desktop processor for gaming. Will it be a good choice for gaming now if I buy this processor?

get i5 6600k  or 6500 or 4690k

Wtf is 4950 ? Did you mean 4590 ? If so, it will be good for gaming, mid range gaming of course. What GPU you intend to match it with ?

Okay. So, if I match this cpu with a gtx 1060 or rx 480 max, will I be able to play most of the latest games?

Yeah, easily. Probably not @ Ultra but surely in high @ 1080p

It is not a TOP tier computer but its a really decent one with a good Pascal GPU. Will be working pretty good, watch this video of the same set up :

You can watch many more video if you look for 4590 gtx 1060  on youtube
