Windows 10 crash screen

Hey LTT,

 

So I'm messing around with overclocking my 5820K in different ways (turning cores off, turning hyperthreading off, this is kinda uncharted territory for me) and I've gotten a couple blue screens. The second I think took forever to do anything so I just turned my computer off by holding the power button, but now every blue screen is stuck on that "collecting error info then we'LOL restart" except it stays at 0%. How bad did I fuck up

You can just pull the plug when you see a blue sceen, you dont need a memory dump.

Yeah it still boots fine, it apparently doesn't like to have hyperthreading turned off though lol

Lol. I had 4 cores no hyperthreading at 4.8GHz on 1.32v. More voltage?

Why would you do that? just for figures of like 4.8Ghz?  makes no sense to me personally, better to have the 6 cores and hyperthreading and run at 4.3Ghz as in your sig... for most things should be much faster than turning off hyperthreading and 2 cores disabled.

Or am I missing something that you're trying to do here?

Yeah, no harm in seeing what you can do for sure... just saying it'd be a weird way to live ie buying a 6 core CPU and then disabling it to get single core performance, would be better to get xx CPU and go for single core performance is all I'm saying.

Yes, it is interesting to see what you can get out of a CPU within reason... my i7 6700K I have running at 4.7Ghz on all cores and is excellent

Yes, it is interesting to see what you can get out of a CPU within reason... my i7 6700K I have running at 4.7Ghz on all cores and is excellent

Yeah my 5820K is not even close to that good a performer. I might get 4.5 if I really spent some time in the bios

Yeah, I'm absoloutely positive I got a good silicon batch as I'm only running a 120mm rad/fan AIO cooler on the CPU and a 200mm intake and 140mm exhaust... and it's only on 1.25vcore too. I may have to upgrade the cooling in this PC at some point, not disappointed with this though TBH as it's 700Mhz faster than stock and helps for the tasks I need to do with it for sure

Yeah, still doesn't come close to the 5820k though, was looking at some cinebench r15 scores for the 5820k @4.7Ghz and it's about 30% faster than my i7 6700k clocked @4.7Ghz, so it's about right for the extra 2 cores really, so still a great performer the 5820k is.

I would've gone x99 and 6850k etc, but the 6700k was a very cheap upgrade for me... and I only really built this new rig for a more mobile rig that I can take with me. I am working on an ultra mobile plan at the moment, but will delay actually making it for now until a customer maybe wants one and can wait the time it would take for me to make. At the moment I make PCs for people, but they are pretty much just standard equipment going in them as I wouldn't get paid enough to make it worth my while right now as most people in my area either just want a cheap-ish PC for media/gaming etc or that type. I also don't have a workshop currently, so all my builds are done in the space I have available... which isn't ideal. I'm thinking of moving to a new area that has a more sustainable client base and getting a place with a workshop, just outside the city so I can carry on with the builds I do now, but have more room to work with and have more tools for the job. FML lol
