Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me.

My computer if around 5 yo now but when I bought it was pretty good:

i7 950 3.07MHz LGA 1366 on a P6T DELUXE V2 Mother board

12 GB Ram and a Quadro 4000.

I'm a 3D Generalist so I use it with Maya, Cinema 4D, After Effects, etc. and I still feel it's pretty good

But I don't want to spend loads of money on a new machine for now and I was wondering if I could upgrade it.

I'm thinking of upgrading to 24 GB Ram, and replace my HDD by a nice SSD.

But what about the CPU? What are the possibilities and prices? Is it still possible to upgrade? Is LGA 1366 to old?

I hope someone can help.

Tks in advance!

In order to upgrade your CPU you would have to get a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM because your i believe is a top of the line i7 for that socket. You could consider something like an i7-3770(K) used or 4770(K) used. for new, your options would be either a 4790(K) or 6700(K). the reason I say (K) is because with the K you can overclock, without you cant

My Build, v2.1 --- CPU: i7-8700K @ 5.2GHz/1.288v || MoBo: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming || RAM: 4x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 2666 14-14-14-33 || Cooler: Custom Loop || GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC Black, on water || PSU: EVGA G2 850W || Case: Corsair 450D || SSD: 850 Evo 250GB, Intel 660p 2TB || Storage: WD Blue 2TB || G502 & Glorious PCGR Fully Custom 80% Keyboard || MX34VQ, PG278Q, PB278Q

Audio --- Headphones: Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX || Amp: Schiit Audio Magni 3 || DAC: Schiit Audio Modi 3 || Mic: Blue Yeti

I would reccomend an AMD RX480 8GB, Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4Ghz, Any LGA 1150 Mobo, and 16/32GB of ram.

 I'm considering buying an Intel. When you say "Any LGA 1150 Mobo" do you mean that even if my MB is LGA1136?

I really can't spend too much money so upgrading only the cpu would be great. I've found loads of i7 for that socket actually http://processors.specout.com/d/p/LGA-.-1366

buy  the XEON X5650 (350$)

This looks like a good option I had no idea that I could buy xeon with that socket.  And this way I can add more memory because now 24 is the max.

Tks for all your replies! It was a great help!
