There is no such thing.  I promise they're not the same at all.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

I highy doubt that they have the same specs. most likey, the laptop has a mobile CPU, which is MUCH worse than a desktop CPU. if you don't need portability, get the desktop.

post the links to both products you are considering so I can take a look

The desktop is a solid 20% more powerful than the notebook.

the cpu's are the only difference right?

No. The GPU  is likely different as well. While NVIDIA did a good thing and kept the same exact GPU specs,  they still downclock it for mobile

The i5 and i7 HQ processors are quad core and are basically downclocked versions of the desktop parts, more or less.

unless you need to game on the go, get the desktop. the performance will be good on both, but the desktop offers more expandability in the future, better troubleshooting/fixing if a part dies, and is slightly more powerful.

Oh, thank you for picking the best 15in 1070 laptop LOL. Basically, if you tinker with it, you'll get close to 5-10% of desktop performance. The MX5 R2 is available with a 6820HK, if you OC it to 4.0 or more, it'll be better than the 6600k at stock and comparable to it at 4.4ghz (average oc for the desktop), given it's i7 and has HT. If you CLU your CPU and GPU you can OC the 1070 pretty heavily as long as max fans are always on and fuck acoustics.
