Windows 7 upgrade stuck on gathering files, settings, and programs

I started a windows 7 upgrade and it has been stuck on gathering files, settings, and programs.  It is still at 0 percent after 1 hour.  Should i cancel it or wait.

Leave it overnight and see if anything happens. Windows update and upgrades are pretty weird.

Does "Windows 7 upgrade" mean that you're updating a PC from Windows 7 to Windows 8 or 10, or that you're updating a PC from Windows Vista to Windows 7?

 

Or, are you just referring to running Windows Update after a clean installation of Windows 7?
