Hey guys i would like to ask what should i consider or avoid to touch upon opening my Seasonic m12 evo?

See my problem with this psu is that it has an extremely loud fan during high loads, Ive already rma'ed this and they gave me a new one it was ok for a few months but it seems to have the same problem now again.

My plan is to replace the fan with a noctua fan and directly connect it to the mobo so i can have full control. Im just asking for some careful tips? Ive seen youtube videos they seem to have done it just fine, im just asking for other opinion. Thanks for the help????

Do you want to die? If so, open the PSU.

To be honest, that's probably the least helpful post i've seen in a while.

Opening a power supply isnt instantly deadly, in fact when it's unplugged you could pretty much lick it and nothing will happen.

Yeah I know it's not really helpful but it can scare a person enough to not mess with a PSU. Some of the caps can stay charged for quite a while though, so waiting like a week to make sure everything has lost charge would be good if they really needed to open it.

Tbh, i havent zapped myself ever with an unplugged power supply, and the places in the psu where you need to go to swap the fan are nowhere near the pins on the caps.

A word of caution would offcourse be applicable, if it wasnt so darn obvious.

It's out of warranty. My brother told me that the capacitors are the ones that store power, I just need to wait for an hour to let it drain itself. But i need more input regarding this

that depend on circut design, it could hold its charge for some minutes or hours or even days.

1. You should at first unplug the PSU from the wall and press the power button of your PC a few times for some seconds (that should drain at least the most of the left charge)

2. Than you can take it out the PC and I would personaly wait at least a day!

3. Now you have to take a out the needed screws to open it up, than take some good rubber gloves to open the case. After that, try to avoid to touch the electrical components.

4. Take some Teflon tipped tweezers (or other non conductive tweezers), to unplug the fan, than take the case and unscrew the bad fan.

5. Throw in your Nortua (or whatever) fan and route the cable the way you want ( you may have to make a "small" cut out in the case, but maybe not just try to make it fit )

6. Now screw the PSU together, DONE.

To be 100% safe you could take a big resistor you have (maybe a 10K one, if you have some) and discharge (wearing thick rubber gloves) more or less any joint between transformer and the caps+any heatsink. .... But I think that is exaggarated if you're careful
