Possible PSU Problem

So long story short, when GPU was under load it would shut off, replaced it. Replacement didn't resolve the issue BUT using a different power connector (on the same cable) to the GPU did work. Before I did this the GPU wouldn't stay on much longer after booting into the OS. Now it's fine until it gets put under load then it shuts off but my system stays on. I'm HOPING it's the PSU and not my board. Thoughts?

System: i7 4790K, Hyper 212 EVO, 16 GB Crucial Ballistix, GTX 1070 Super clocked, MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition, Corsair RM 750, Corsair 750D (with 2 additional 140mm NZXT fans up top for exhaust.)

Full system specs are the ones in your signature or something else?

1070 is my new GPYU everything else is correct

So the cable going from my PSU has 2 sets of connectors that go to the GPU. I was using one set but figured trying another wouldn't hurt. I also Plugged the cable into a different connector on the PSU so I'm not sure which of these "fixed" my problem

so its a daisy chain cable and you're only using one end of it?

yes, and have been for a year with no issue. Like I said when I swapped the ends my system would at least boot and the GPU would stay on unlike before, but now when I put it under strain the GPU shuts off again. I've only tested 3 games. "Nevermind" which constantly has the GPU at 99% which resulted in the GPU failing. GTA V which the result was the same. I also tested Skyrim and that went well, but that's not surprising. I HOPE It's the PSU and NOT my mother board.

i doubt it's your MoBo since they are usually either totally fine or DOA. unless you dropped your case recently or put your screw driver/finger through it. It could be your PSU, but it's plenty powerful. I don't hear of newer PSUs actually going bad a lot, just then not having enough wattage.... and then going bad

well I did buy it refurbished. In your opinion would you say it's the PSU?

IMO, it sounds like a PSU problem but I would find it odd if it were. Corsair's RM series, while now phased out, are still really good PSUs. That being said, I'm not the best trouble shooter, so I would try to get another opinion

The RM is actually still manufactured, even amongst the new RMx and RMi.

It sounds like you should start with unplugging everything in your system and plugging it back in as well as dialing back any overclocks first. Then, if problems persist, RMA your PSU and Corsair will send you a new one. The RM is a decent PSU, think you just got back luck :)

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

This. Plug everything in one by one. Use your onboard graphics and no GPU if you have it to start. then plug everything in one by one, testing each as you go

I did all that last week. Bought EVGA SuperNova 650W today. Everything seems to be fine  now
