Look at multithreaded performance.

Whether you like it or not games are moving toward multithreaded performance, plenty of games can already use eight threads, including some indie titles, and high end gpus like the 1080 are losing performance when put with an i5.

 •E5-2670 @2.7GHz • Intel DX79SI • EVGA 970 SSC• GSkill Sniper 8Gb ddr3 • Corsair Spec 02 • Corsair RM750 • HyperX 120Gb SSD • Hitachi 2Tb HDD •

In most games, the 6600K will probably be about the same as the 4770, or at least close enough that overclocking the 6600K may make up the difference. But it's going to be very marginal one way or the other. In editing, the 6600K will usually be considerably worse. Overall, yes, I'd call it a downgrade.

Even with the 6700K, you'll probably need to do some overclocking to make it feel like a noticeable upgrade. It's really only one generation difference, and Intel doesn't move that quickly these days.

About 1000 point varainces, as well as one is running osx and the other windows 7, with differing ram speeds (unknown for the 6600k), and capacities, hardly trustworthy or fair results.

Pretty much you just showed how faster ram helps out with cpu bottlenecks.

Plus it says 3.5Ghz for the 6600k, but who knows what that is actually running at.

K is overclocked at 4.6, that's the main point of K processors, but i agree with you on i7 4770>>i5 6600

The i5 6600K is propably your best bet if you arent a consistant streamer or video editor, the newer architecture together with DDR4 support makes it basically the best there is for gaming. The i7s are good if you will be playing games at the same time as you render a video, since any editing file most likely wont use more than 4 threads. Put the extra money towards your GPU
