Graphics cards are typically designed by their manufacturer to be used over the course of 2-3 years.

They can be used for an extended period of time such as 5+ years safely without issue.

However, using it for over 5 years means you're not using the most efficient component (heat and power consumption wise) and you're not using the newer generation with new technologies.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

That is a very open-ended question. there are a lot of questions and variables to answer before you ask yourself that question.

1. What resolution and refresh rate do you have on your monitor?

2. What kind of games do you intend to play?

3. What is your budget?

4. What is your current GPU and does it even need to be upgraded?

5. Can my PSU handle the wattage? (a 1060 is pretty light so you almost certainly can)

6. Do you want the 3GB or 6GB model? (You should want the 6GB model or you should get an RX480 4GB)

OP's question is very open to interpretation.

IDK if he means how long it should last or after how long it should be replaced?

Its not open to interpretation.... his exact words are: " I was wondering if I should get a gtx 1060..."

Those are the questions you answer to determine whether or not you get a 1060.

I was aiming to answer what he wanted to know

I do not know how long it will last for in the future.

There are numerous answers to that question.

If you're in Europe then it's fine for a few years. If you're somewhere where the 480 is cheaper or equal then get that instead. The 7000 series proves that only AMD cards are worth it in the long term.

There aren't really. he either can afford better or he can't. he either wants a better gaming experience or he doesn't. if he answers the questions I made for him, we can easily determine if a 1060 will be future proof for him. it isn't a matter of lifespan (pretty much all GPU's are replaced before they die) but rather a matter of tolerable before he replaces it.

Not trying to be argumentative or anything. Just tryin' to help, same as you =)

Hello sorry I didn't answer I was at school but I meant how long could I have it until it would no longer be able to play the top games on an ultra wide monitor or a 1440p monitor. The games are like mafia 3, GTA v. Those sort of games.

Thank you everyone for your responses
