HDD Initialization

Hey everyone! 

So I'm trying to help fix an old laptop. It's pretty ancient, but the hardware seems to all work well. Except for the hard drive. 

 

Linux doesn't recognize it, so I plug it into a Windows computer (currently using 7 but tried with 10 as well). It tells me to initialize the disk. I do that, choose MBR for compatability, and it gives me a window saying "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

My machine's specs are on my profile, and the hard drive is Seagate momentum 5400, 320GB SATA.

I/O errors sometimes indicate controller errors.

 

Can you try using diskpart to check the disk and possibly to create a volume?

but yes its probably dead
