I have always enjoyed the look of Asus' Sabertooth motherboards, and I know they're all x99/z97/z170 so Id assume they're of decent quality. But, I never see anyone using them or hear them being mentioned. Are they good? Are they too expensive for their quality?

$250 for a motherboard? Hell yeah they're too expensive. But they are pretty good MoBos, and damn are they sexy.

Its actually $180 for the Sabertooth Z170S which was the one I was looking at for a friend's all white build

i have a Z97 sabertooth mk2, which is basicly the poor man's version of the mk1.

and... it's a motherboard. once it's in the case i wouldnt be able to tell the difference from my old intel branded mobo.

the reason why i went specificly with the mk2 was because i like things without defined color theme, it has a lot of fan plugs and other bits and bobs, and it just generally looks sleek but powerful.

but in the end a mobo is a mobo, and if it properly connects your components together without catching fire it'll do the same as any other mobo.

The Sabertooth motherboards are part of their "TUF" series.

If I recall right, ASUS mentioned these boards went through a more rigorous testing, and are guaranteed to last XX amount of years (10?), and can run 24/7.

They also had more on-board thermal sensors at time.

They all had a "thermal armor" metal / plastic cover to protect it from dust -- some even had a little cooling fan to actively bring air inside the armor, and also cool the VRMs.

These motherboards aren't mentioned much, and I think it is because of the choice of colors.

Unless you are doing with a military-themed build (e.g. Corsair C70 case, Noctua fans, etc), the black, brown, and tan color didn't really appeal to many.

This probably also why ASUS eventually rolled out the white camo variants -- like the Z97 and Z170 Mark S.

Yeah I thought that would be really nice to have. I have another 2-3 years before I will have (hopefully) the money to build my dream rig, I want to do an all white build the the white urban camo of the Z170s is pretty much perfect. I know we'll probably be another one or two sockets down from now to then but I can hope they still make the Sabertooth series lol

Have used them on the AMD side and they are rock solid! The colors did take some getting used to,but the new 990FX Rev 3.0 is nice looking.

TUF SABERTOOTH 990FX R3.0

As for Mothorboard prices,I personally find $250 Not bad, spending that or more is a non issue for the quality/features You get.

A Mobo is just a Mobo couldn't be further from the truth..
