Hi

I have a usb drive (1tb) that has an old system image from when I had windows 8.1 on my system. I now have Windows 10 and want to make a new system image. I only have on drive but there isn't enough space on it to make a new backup. Is there any program that will compress the system image into rar/zip format or something similar. I've tried selecting the "WindwosImageBackup" file in windows explorer and selecting add to archive with WinRAR and 7zip from the menu that appears but neither go past o% compression. Is there any way to compress this file

P.s. I know that the files are slightly compressed during the creation of the system image but I wondered if they could be compressed any further.

Probably not, although deleting it would compress it by 100%

did you try setting winrar to winrar5 with the biggest library available? needs 16gbs of RAM though

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

no. I didn't. I only have 8Gbs Ram. Could I try it?

7zip would allow you to select the maximum compression possible with the amount of RAM memory available. When choosing the compression preset and the dictionary size and word size, it tells you how much memory it's going to need to perform the compression.

If you have 8 GB of memoy in your system, it's safe to go with settings that will make 7zip use up to about 6.5-7 GB of memory. Don't ever set it to use more than 90% of your total available memory.

You could try the things just below maximum Dictionary size 512MB maybe, check your RAM usage
