I'm planning on throwing in another 660ti because I can get one for $200 but the problem is that my Matx mobo won't have any spacing between the cards. Will this have any perceivable cooling issues? If so are there any cooling options like the support brace in the Haf x?

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

There will be issues, there is a small space between them so a large amount of airflow directed at the cards will lower the temps but there wont be much you can do aside from that, throwing a fan on a side panel mount will help if your case has one.

Next time keep this to one post. https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/67214-pci-e-20-16x-at-4x/

To answer your question. I need to know if your current card is a blower fan version or a more open design. Does it exhaust out the back or into the case?

660ti are not blower style. It's always open and exhausts air into case

Sorry, I thought it would be more appropriate to put it in the right category. But to answer your question I have an MSI power edition so it's an open design.

From EVGA they are. EVGA have both blower and open.

Okay.

Your cards will run hotter and you will definitely want good airflow in your case but it's do-able.

(edit) Just be sure that there is room for the top card to "breathe". So you might need to use a rubber spacer or something.

Double check the manual for your Mobo, Most will space the cards for you. Any motherboard I have had has always made you SLI/Crossfire in SLI slot 1+3. Only if you triple Crossfire/SLI will you use slot 1+2+3.

I have ran 480gtx's in slots 1+3 and I didint notice any real heat difference under full load (1-3c max) and believe me the 480's ran HOT!

(both reference blower styles)

Would taping a 90mm fan to the side be necessary? I'm working in a prodigy m so the only air flow will be from the top 120mm intakes.

Edit: trying to use mobile :P

If you are set on getting another 660ti and using SLI instead of getting a single card go for it and see what temps you get while gaming. Thankfully the 600 series doesn't run too hot so I think it'll be fine.

After reviewing the LTT archives for 660 ti videos I found the galaxy 660 ti (currently $165) has an extremely open and efficient cooler design. Because of the open sides it should be able to still bring in an adequate amount of air without much help.

You could have two cards that output heat up against your side panel and without it escaping there, the heat will rise and be integrated with the intakes of other fans.

If you have a side panel fan mount already, single or double, you can point it so the airflow goes out of the case, sucking air in would not help SLI/Xfire when you have two airflows conflicting.

If you don't have any side panel mounts you can create them.

Many video tutorials are online.

Here is a forum guide, to put a big 25cm fan in the spot where both cards would be expelling heat, you could also point a fan towards the cards from a HDD cage area for maybe a small benefit to GPU intake.

This guide is a reference, you can use different parts, mounts, screws and grills if you want to or at all...

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

i dont get why they dont do this

that'd be cool.

and as for OP, I'd get a new card instead and let go the 660 - but this is coz I tried having my 680s right next to each other and with the heat it hits 100'C

so yea, I'd avoid it if it's all possible.

have a good directed fans to try and push the heat as much as you can.

Check out the build: Used to be Obot, now Lilith

You were saying something about 660ti never being blower?

geforce-gtx-660ti-3qtr.png?itok=nKhiJglx

It's rare that people buy the nVidia one, but there definitely is blower solutions.

Also, if there is virtually no spacing between the cards, consider a water loop.

Yeah, I should have said there are few blower styles. But most people buy the Twin Frozr, gigabyte or something like that. Also, the guy actually does have the MSI TF
