win 10 reactivation

Hello, I'm running an AMD build i built last Christmas. i am planing on upgrading to the intel platform for better performance. After the upgrade can i just purchase a new key and reactivate it without doing a clean reinstall of windows 10? Also i am using the retail version of windows, not the free upgrade. Thanks in advance.

If you are using the retail version of Windows, then you don't have to buy a new key. Your old one will work as long as you deactivate your Windows before the upgrade.

You have it backwards, you need to do a clean isntall, but you don't have to buy a new key

but out of simplicity could i boot into my os after the upgrade and when prompted to put in a product key could i just buy another win 10 key and reactivate it? the idea of doing a clean reinstall doesn't appeal to me that much.
