Could you recommend a good Z97 MB just in case that I won't be able to get a new one ?? :)

There are many great Z97 motherboards.
I consider the one you had, the AsRock Killer actually a really nice motherboard for the price.

Generally I recommend you ASUS or AsRock boards. I'm not a fan of MSI and Gigabyte stuff. Not saying that those are bad, but I don't like their BIOS interface and I had bad experiences with them. I really like the AsRock Extreme4 series of motherboards.

The one I'm using right now is a ASUS Sabertooth S Z170.
You can have a look into the Sabertooth series of boards. They're not too expensive, but still very well build.

I've hopefully listed all the important specs down in the signature by now.

Long story short: I wanted to steadily upgrade (New PSU, GPU, maybe RAM if enough $$/€€ are left) my PC over the next few months and started with the PSU as the backbone. Bought the Corsair RMi 750 off Amazon.

I wanted to put it in right away so I started and tried to ground myself all the time (metal door handels, touching the Case from time to time), got the old PSU beQuiet! 550W 80, don't know the grade (Plat, Gold, Silver...) out and put this modular baby in. As I was putting it in I thought to myself "Why not take one of the two drive cages out too and let's not forget to turn this upper front case fan by 90° so that the Corsair Logo in the middle is in the right position ?" did that and also put my GPU on the upper PCIe slot.

After installing the PSU I tried to boot it up, didn't work. Looked around and put the PWR_SW and all the other connectors in the right pins and aligned the +/- stuff. Somehow got it to work in a way that I had to push the Power-Button two times to boot up the PC. It ran for two straight days only to freeze at some point in the night and after that I got this exact problem after every possible step that I took:

Push the Power-Button a bit/a second...everything starts up and shuts down after a second/immediately.

Push the Power-Button longer than a second...everything starts up and shuts down after approx. 5-7 seconds.

I've taken the steps of TroubleShoot posts from this and other forum(s), in no particular order:

  1. Breadboarding with the cardboard box that the PSU came in
  2. Switching the RAM completely and putting every module in every DIMM
  3. Putting in the old PSU, same problem
  4. Taking out the GPU; putting it into the "old" PCIe slot
  5. Switching the Power-Button and Reset-Button 'thingies' so I'd start by pressing the Reset-Button, shorting the PWR_SW pins with a Flathead screwdriver
  6. Putting in the old drive cage and putting the HDD in it's old spot
  7. Connecting the SATA cables to the HDD every possible way
  8. Disconnecting USB-Cage-Connectors to prevent a possible short circuit ( Should've mentioned this earlier, in these two days, the right one of the two USB2.0 Ports on top of the case stopped working )
  9. Boot without HDD
  10. Clear CMOS; Taking out the CMOS Battery and waiting for a couple of minutes

I've now come to the conclusion that the culprit is either the CPU or the Mainboard, I am more on the MB side of things.

I'm asking you guys now to help me solve this annoying problem so I can game and watch in PC and not have to rely on the PCs of others.

Thanks in advance :)

EDIT: Some things just come to mind when you finished them ^^

The 'old' PSU beQuiet! PSU, the RAM Modules, CD/DVD Player and the HDD are all 4 years old

The GPU is 2 years old, and the MB, CPU+Cooler and Case are ca. 10 months old.

When you say you took the GPU out and put it into the old PCI-e slot, did you mean that you also tried booting the whole thing without a graphics card installed?

You already tried so many things, that I don't really know where else I would continue with troubleshooting.

Am I blind or is there nothing that says 'Reply', I see that you're from Germany, that's very helpful :) (Grüße aus dem immer brauner werdenden Sachsen -.-)

I cut off similar steps by putting a semicolon inbetween, so yeah I already booted up the system without the GPU ^^

At the bottom is a box for replying or you can simply quote others, which makes more sense in this case. But it seems you found it already :P

Have you tried booting without any drives attached?
Maybe try to boot with only 4 out of the 8 CPU-power pins attached. Could be a deffective connector on your motherboard.

'9. Boot without HDD' I've only got this one HDD, no fancy SSD stuff, GPU and CPU are more important things to spend money on, IMO.

Most of these steps were performed with a detatched CD/DVD-Player. The MB has an 8-Pin CPU power connector and I can't 'divide'/split the PSU-CPU connector -.-

Sorry, didn't read properly.
I think it is probably related to your 8-pin CPU power connector, cause your rig simply shuting off after a few seconds is a typical response to a not properly connected or damaged power connector. Might also be the 24-pin connector.

At this point I would probably just get a new motherboard. You're still in warranty.

Thanks for the help, I was going to get a new MB either way. Now I just have to get through the warranty and send back jungle. Fairly new to all the ordering stuff :)

Yeah, it's really hard to get these connectors in and out of the MB -.-

Ironically one of my reasons to buy a new PSU was so that I could put in the CPU Power connector more easily, I had to fiddle the old one through the CPU Heatpipes and under the GPU because it was toooooooo short, it worked fine, never melted but you can never be sure ^^

I've just read through some of the Reviews for the AsRock Z97 Extreme 4, they all got the same problem I have o.O Taking it completely off the power grid and then suddenly not starting at all or having to do all sorts of magic tricks, maybe I've got the same happening with my MB because this all started with me disconnecting it from everything that could potentially power it in the background, i.e. unplugging the MB connectors of the old PSU. Definitely gonna send it back now, I really hope that I can get my money back :|

Here's a link for you https://www.amazon.de/product-reviews/B00K6JKTDI/ ...PSA: this is in German ;)

Interesting. Didn't even know about that problem.
I don't think they will give you your money back, but maybe can replace the board with a higher end model or something.
