What is jailbreaking a PS3?

Hi all,
Just a quick question here. I have came upon the term "PS3 jailbreaking". What in the world is that? I read a little about it but everyone says it lets you put code into your PlayStation. Am I right? Also where do you get these codes? 

Another question PS3 relating is that is it possible to replicate a game? For example if your friend has like BO3, can you copy it to a blue-ray or dvd? Then plug the blue-ray into your PS4, will it work?

Jailbreaking allows for functionality beyond what the Playstation 3 can handle normally, by running "homebrew" code. Technically it's probably possible to copy a PS3 game, but it's illegal to do so, and I'm pretty sure the disc is encrypted to prevent that. But there are ways to circumvent it I'm sure.
