Computer died, having trouble choosing parts

My previous build died after 5 years of use. (my hard drive and 16gb of ddr3 ram is salvageable) I am working on building a replacement, so here is what I am thinking:

CPU: i7 6700k

GPU: ASUS GTX 1070

Motherboard: asus maximus viii hero

Case: corsair 750d

CPU cooler: corsair h100i

PS: Corsair Professional Gold 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Ram:G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory

That is what I have been thinking. I know close to nothing about motherboards so I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. I plan on mostly using it for gaming and schoolwork. I want to leave the door open for a possible 4k upgrade in the future. I was considering getting a cheaper CPU and a cheaper motherboard and upgrade the gpu to a 1080 but I don't know if that's a bad idea. Please give me any information or suggestions they are all greatly appreciated. Cheers :)

Er... this list isn't very specific. What Corsair PSU model? What brand of ram? What HDD are you reusing? And... stick with the i7 6700k. You can go for a cheaper mobo, the RGB is making that board expensive. Even an i7 6700k would struggle a little with 1070 SLI, if you are thinking of doing that in the future. You would probably need that for 4K (someone back me up on this).

Skyggeis Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H5 Ultimate 76.0 CFM CPU Cooler
Motherboard: MSI Z170A SLI PLUS ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" Hard Drive
Video Card: Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 8GB AMP! Extreme
Case: Phanteks ECLIPSE P400S ATX Mid Tower Case Satin Black
PSU: Corsair RMx 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular PSU
WiFi Card: Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I REV 4.2
Case Fan: Aerocool DS 140mm Black 93.4 CFM
Case Fan: Aerocool DS 140mm Black 93.4 CFM
Case Fan: Aerocool DS 140mm Black 93.4 CFM
Other: Coolermaster VGA Holder
Other: Phanteks LED Strip 1M
Other: Phanteks Fan Splitter

Monitor: Dell S2716DG

Why Mushkin Blackline memory? It's not that cheap anymore... it's even more expensive than Corsair ram...

Thx for the feedback, I fixed some of the things I have on hand, but the hdd is old but it's an ssd w/ my os, then I also use an external hardrive drive for everything else.

Here's a Newegg parts list.

PCPartPicker part list

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($339.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($94.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Asus Z170 PRO GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($142.98 @ Newegg)

^This should provide you with everything you need and then some. >Reviews
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory  ($76.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($99.99 @ Newegg)

^You need an SSD if you don't already have one, there are cheaper/slightly slower 240gb's for around $65
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB SC Gaming ACX 3.0 Video Card  ($414.98 @ Newegg)

^Went with this instead of the ASUS. Cheaper, performs similarly/better and offers RGB LED logo as well
Case: Corsair Carbide 400Q ATX Mid Tower Case  ($94.99 @ Newegg)

^Just a personal preference. You can stick to the 750D but there are other full tower cases that offer more for the value like the Enthoo Pro
Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($69.99 @ Newegg)

^High tier PSU that saves you money
Total: $1319.91

An i5-6600K and a 1080 isn't a good combination. A 1070 would be enough even at 1440p.
