GTX 1070 + Overclocked FX8320

Just a short question: Would the GTX1070 work well with an AMD FX8320 Overclocked to 4.5 GHz?

 

Specs:

CPU: AMD FX8320 4.5 GHz

Motherboard: MSI 970 Gaming AM3+

RAM: 16GB crucial 1600Mhz

PSU: Corsair 750W

Define "work"? Will the PC turn on and play games, yes. Will it be bottlenecked, also a definite yes. It should still easily get over 60fps in any title 1080p (Probs upward of 100, not quite enough for 144hz though). Bottleneck will be less at higher resolutions. 

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

No, it wouldn't work well. Even an RX 470/GTX 970 wouldn't work well. Even at 5.4GHz you'd have problems (mainly stuttering and low minimum fps)

At least until a cpu + mobo upgrade next year ( old gpu died) and buying a cheap gpu just to have it a year would cost more than buying a good gpu now... 

 

But I would like to use it for high/ultra 1080p60fps gaming.

In that case, get a GTX 1060/RX 480 and upgrade the CPU+motherboard now. You won't get much more out of your FX 8320-especially since you don't have the motherboard for extreme overclocking (and if its not an early FX 8320) one of the pre FX 9590 FX 8*** that can hit 5GHz+ safely.

Hmm... But a cpu + mobo upgrade would be expensive here in Norway (nearly 50%+ in taxes and fees). And a GTX 1060 cost nearly the same as 1070 here...

Get the 1070 is ur monitor60hz ? 

If ur upgrading the next year it will be fine

Yes 60Hz monitor, and I dont think that a 1070 with this CPU would be a disaster for 4months?

Not a complete disaster. But you will appreciate your new CPU even more (specifically if its an i5 6500 or better)
