What GPU for 4K?

On Sunday, I'll finally be hopping aboard the 4K bandwagon. But the question now is what GPU I'm going to need for 60FPS, ultra in graphically demanding games. My 980 Ti seems to be only occasionally capable of this, and the reality is I would need to accept 30 FPS in most circumstances. The question is therefore whether you would recommend I sell the card and buy something else now, or wait for next year's GPU's, or even SLI. What do you think?

1070 or a 1080 really or wait for the 1080ti. Idk about sli 980ti's someone else, whom is more informed than me can help you with that.

I'd SLI tbh

980ti's are around 300 now, and two of them would definitely provide the necessary horsepower for 4kl

If money is no object GTX 1080 SLI could probably get you there without compromise, though you could benefit more by waiting for the rumored 1080ti or other cards coming out

Single card: GTX 1080 for well-optimized titles, such as Doom. Or the Titan XP/GTX 1080 Ti. Otherwise you're looking at SLI-ing.

I could do. But even at "very high", or something similar, the 980 Ti doesn't tend to be enough.

I guess I'm wondering what sort of performance Vega 10 is going to bring-and at what price.

1080 can go good if you also have Gsync, but without 4k ultra is still a depending on game situation for a single 1080. Would also recommend for a 1080Ti or if you have the dosh go with a Titan XP over a sli setup because of all the possible drawbacks.

 

Will have to see what Vega brings, it will atleast set pressure on pricing.

So right now I'm running a single 1080 gtx for a 4k rig. It gets 45-55 fps on most demanding titles with everything blown out. I am waiting for the TI to see if it's capable as a single GPU of 60FPS with 4k maxed out. If so I'll sell this and upgrade then, If not I'll SLI my 1080. 

 

So you can do what I'm doing or go two 1070 sli because they have been proven to bench over 60 FPS in 4k

Yeah I surely hope that, or we seem to go a similar story for GPU's as with CPU's. Bad for pricing no matter what camp someone would prefer....
