I'm using a Phantom power to power the MIC.

I wanted to know if I can noise suppress the mic. As in remove the background sound. The hissing white background noise.

Thanks! :D

What do you mean by a filter? Like a pop filter?

Get a better mic. If it hisses badly, the SnR is just crap. You can post-process it by sampling the white noise and adding layers of noise suppression with tools like Audacity or Adobe premier.

But depending on how bad it is, you might want to simply get a mic that doesn't hiss in the first place as aggressive noise reduction eats into the recording and makes it sound terrible (tin-sound). I got a AKG Perception Live (P5) for voice-overs and I have virtually no hiss. Interface is a Scarlett Solo.

It's only hisses when I increase the volume via the mixer. Should I keep them volume down and then edit it with Audacity?

If you amplify 'some' hiss, it becomes just as bad at the end. Just load one of your favorite podcasts into audacity, look at the gain levels and try to match them with your hardware. If it hisses badly, chances are you're never going to get it right without swapping out some hardware.

Also, did you add some acoustic dampening in your room? (this won't dampen hiss, but reduce echo) You can cheat by putting a duvet over your head, but that's really annoying to record with :D
