Nope. AMD FX-6300 is the fastest sub-100$ CPU, followed by the Athlon X4 880K that comes with the Wraith Cooler.  G3258 is crap.

Crap is a bit far, it's an okay chip. Especially if you want an intel upgrade path.

Yeah, an upgrade path into an essentially dead platform... Only an i3-6100 gives you a real upgrade path, but that's over 100$.

Upgrade paths aside, G3258 is not a CPU for gaming, it's an overclocking toy. Dual cores are obsolete.

Pentium G4400 is Skylake and costs $60

It's still not better than an FX-6300 or Athlon X4 880K, so I guess it's not a good idea. Not to mention the G4400 is 20% slower after you OC the G3258.

And now, for something completely different - the AMD Athlon X4 870K

You say dual cores are obsolete then recommend a dual core i3 lol

What's it for? what's the PC budget?

And what's the planned build?

you're going to want either an Athlon 845 or i3 6100

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

An i3 is a dual core with HyperThreading, Pentium is not. It's different.
