how many watts?

jeremymwilson

Hi everyone,

I am building a system with: i7 6770k, MSI Z170A SLI Plus, Gigabyte gtx 1070 Windforce OC, 16gb 2400 ddr4, 850 Evo 500GB.

I was planning to buy an EVGA Supernova G2 550 but I also might be adding a 2nd 1070 next year and want to know which PSU to get for SLI. I might do a little CPU and GPU overclock but it's not essential.

Is a 650 watt PSU enough or should I go for 750?

cheers

A 650 watt is more than enough, 750 would be overkill.

650W is definitely enough. That PC would run on a 400-500W PSU.

650W is fine but I'm actually going to recommend that you grab a 750W as Pascal cards use more power than Maxwell cards and 1070s overclock to unbelievable clocks and voltage. It wouldn't hurt to grab a 750G2.

Unless you're going to be adding more things in the future. 650 is fine for where you are right now.

thanks for all the good advice. To be honest I change my mind on a daily basis on what my build will be, so planning for a year from now is impossible. At the moment I have just the case and plan to order everything else in November.

I'd say there's a 70% chance of either adding a 2nd 1070 or swapping for a 1080Ti next year...

So that, along with probable modest cpu and cpu overclocks, pushes me towards the supernova 750.

when you want to know exactlty "how much watt" :

The Outervision calculator is garbage. Same goes for the Cooler Master one. Don't use them.
