Hello,

I'm starting a Buildlog here for my new project, as the title suggests, "The Ultimate Toolbox PC".
The purpose of this Project is to cram as much PC Hardware as possible in a Case made out of a Toolbox (µATX Motherboard,
CPU, RAM, GPU, SFX PSU, CPU cooler, 4-5 HDD's, Fans and a 21.5 "screen). This project is about to demonstrate what can be built in a toolbox.
Another reason is, that I would like to have a mobile diagnistic PC.

Hardware:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4570

RAM: Avexir Core Yellow 2x4GB (lying around)

MoBo: Gigabyte Z97MX Gaming 5
SSD: still not sure which
HDD's: lying around
HDD Case 1: Icy Dock MB994SP-4SB-1 4Bay HDD Cage

HDD Case 2: Icy Box IB-172 Series 2Bay Mobile Rack
GPU: GTX 960 iCill X3 Air Boss
PSU: Corsair SF450
Monitor: an old Gericom 21.5" Monitor

 

I will take my time with this build, but I will post Photos whenewer it is possible.
So stay tuned.

Hallo,

ich lege hier einen Buildlog für mein neues Projekt, wie der Titel schon sagt, "The Ultimate Toolbox PC"
an. Gundsätzlich geht es darum so viel Hardware in einen Werkzeugkoffer einzubauen (µATX Motherboard,
CPU, RAM, GPU, SFX PSU, CPU Kühler, 4-6 Festplaten, Lüfter, 21,5" Bildschirm). Dieser PC ist vordergründig
einfach nur um zu sehen was sich alles in einem Werkzeugkoffer verbauen lässt. Ein anderer Grund ist,
dass ich gerne einen mobilen Diagnose PC haben möchte.

Hardware:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4570
RAM: Avexir Core Yellow 2x4GB (lag herum)
MoBo: Gigabyte Z97MX-Gaming 5
SSD: noch nicht sicher welche
HDD's: liegen herum
HDD Case 1: Icy Dock MB994SP-4SB-1 4Bay HDD Cage

HDD Case 2: Icy Box IB-172 Series 2Bay Mobile Rack
GPU: GTX 960 iCill X3 Air Boss

Der Build wird nicht zu schnell voranschreiten, aber ich werde immer wieder Updates posten.
Also bleibt dran.

Ich wünsche euch viel Spaß beim zuschauen und ein großes Dankeschön an IcyDock für die Bereitstellung
des HDD Cases.

 

Kommentiert, sagt mir was ich besser machen könnte. Ich freue mich über alles.

Just taped the side of the Toolbox where the Screen should go. Screen is about 12mm thick, so there is not as much space as it seems. The DVI and VGA Cables have to go there too. Also the power supply for the Monitor.

So jetzt habe ich die Seiten abgeklebt wo der Monitor eingebaut wird. Er ist ca. 12mm dick. Das klingt zwar dünn, aber da ist nicht so viel Platz wie es scheint. Das DVI und VGA Kabel müssen auch irgendwo untergebracht werden, genauso wie das Netzteil für den Monitor.

First cut is finished. Not a precise as i hoped, but i will fix that later. Screen fits, so Mission accomplished for today.

Der erste Schnitt ist geschafft. NIcht so präzise wie ich gehofft hätte, aber das werde ich später dann noch ausbessern. Meine Mission für heute ist erfüllt.

I couldn't resist to cut the second hole to fit the screen today. It is installed now but should be secured next week if i am able to do it.

Ich konnte einfach nicht wiederstehen heute das zweite Loch für den Bildschirm zu schneiden. Der Bildschirm ist jetzt zwar eingebaut, sollte aber fixiert werden. Werde ich nächste Woche mach falls ich zeit habe.

Yesterday I got the wood for the PC to mount all the components. I ordered the wood because I saw that the wood in the toolbox isn't that thick and stabil.

I will increase the stability of the toolbox with those wooden plates.

Now I have to cut the wood to fit perfectly in the case. But only on the weekend because I have too much to do at work.

Gestern habe ich die Holzplatten abgeholt auf denen ich den PC dann schlussendlich montieren werde. Ich habe diese Platten damit ich den Koffer verstärken kann, da dieser leider nicht so stabil wie gedacht ist. Die Platten werden dem Koffer hoffentlich eine erhöhte Stabilität bieten können.

Was noch bleibt ist die Platten zurecht zu schneiden damit diese dann perfect in den Koffer hineinpassen.

Leider kann ich damit erst am Wochenende anfangen, da ich derzeit sehr viel in der Arbeit zu tun habe.

Just look at that straight cut. So beautiful. Only worked on one plate, but it took me about 3 hours to finish this plate.

Schaut euch doch einmal diesen  wunderschönen geraden Schnitt an. Ich habe heute nur an einer Platte gearbeitet und es hat nur für die eine Platte 3 Stunden gedauert.

Got the GPU for the Build. It's a GTX 960 from iChill. This is a big GPU. Very big. It looks like the card only consists of heatsink. Runs very cool, max. Temps are around 55°C. I tested this card on my main rig, because the MoBo which should go into the "Toolbox PC" just broke. The BIOS crashed, and not only that. I also wasn't able to flash the BIOS either. It should take about 5 Weeks to get a ned Board. So therefore please understand that  i am not able to post so often.

Jetzt habe ich endlich die GPU. Es ist eine GTX 960 der Marke iCill. Eine richtig große und schwere GPU. Es schaut fast so aus als würde die Grafikkarte nur aus einem einzigen großen Kühlkörper bestehen. Darum wird sie auch nicht so heiß. Ich habe maximal 55°C gemessen. Die Karte wurde in meinem Haupt PC getestet, weil das Mainboard für den "Toolbox PC" leider aufgehört hat zu arbeiten. Das BIOS ist einfach abgeschmiert. ICh war nicht mal mehr in der Lage das BIOS zu flashen. Es wird ca. 5 Wochen dauern bis ich das neue Mainboard bekomme. Also bitte versteht wenn ich nicht so oft in der Lage bin Updates zu posten.

Today I fitted the mounting bracket for the GPU. Had to drill three 3 mm holes to secure the mounting bracket with M3 screws.. GPU is now secured, but a support should be added to prevent the GPU from hanging down this much. Also cutted a hole to attatch the cables to the GPU. Also you can see now how big the cooler of this card is. It is HUGE:

Heute wurde die Befestigungsplatte für die Grafikkarte montiert. Es wurden zunächst drei Löcher mit einem Durchmesser von 3 mm geborht. Danach wurde die Platte mit drei M3 Schrauben befestigt. Die GPU sitzt jetzt zwar an ihrem Platz sollte jedoch noch gesichert werden, damit sie nicht so hinunterhängt.Auf dem zweiten Bild kann man auch erkennen wie groß der Kühler eigentlich ist. Er ist riesig.

Today i also got my second hot swap cage. One 2,5" mount and another 3,5" mount. After I unboxed the HDD Cage I did another testfit to ensure that everything is able to fit where it belongs.

Heute hab ich dann auch meinen zweiten Hot Swap Festplattenkäfig bekommen. Einbauen kann man 1x2,5" und 1x3,5" Festplatten. Danach habe ich gleich wieder einen Testfit gemach um auch sicherzustellen, dass sich alles ausgeht und es keine Probleme beim Einbau geben wird.

  What's to do now is to fix the HDD case to the Plate.

  I did this with four wooden blocks which are screwed in from the bottom of the plate.

  Another screw comes through the frame of the HDD case.

  It is also important to note that it is necessary to extend the cutting so you are able to plug in the SATA and power cables.

  was jetzt noch zu machen ist ist, dass der HDD Käfig an der Holzplatte festgemacht werden muss.

  Das wurde mit vier Blöcken aus Holz gemacht, welche von unten durch die Holzplatte in den Block geschraubt wurden.

  Weiters gibt es bei jedem Block eine Schraube die Durch den Festplattenkäfig in den Holzblock führt.

  Wichtig zu wissen ist auch noch, dass man, falls das der Fall ist, die Ausnehmung vergrößern muss um die SATA und Sromkabeln anzustecken.

Well thats gonna be sweet, I sure will follow this thread for updates. (sorry I cant help you XD)

But maybe you should go for a m.2 SSD. Those things are tiny and many motherboards support it. Even the micro-ITX ones.

Just managed to cram the 120mm NF-F12 under the NH-L12, Now only about 1mm clearance to the VRM Heatsinks.

I am very happy that i was able to do this. i would feel a little bit unconfotable with only one 92mm fan installed

Ich habe es geschafft den NF-F12 Lüfter unter den CPU Kühler einzubauen. Jetzt ist ca 1mm zwischen dem Kühler und den VRM Kühlkörpern. Es war wirklich eine Erleichterung, ich würde mich nicht wohlfühlen wenn da nur ein 92mm Lüfter für die Kühlung verantwortlich wäre.

I have a m.2 laying around, but the problem is: if i use a m.2 ssd, i am not able to connect 6 drives, because two are not avaliable through the controller if a m.2 ssd is installed.

IcyDock just hoohked me up with a 4 Bay Dock for this Project. So a big shoutout to them.

Ripped all the foam off the Toolbox/Case. Now its totally naked. Just have to figure out a method to remove the adhesive, maybe someone of the community could help me

Testfitted all the components in the Case. This will be a thight fit. The screen just fits perfectly into the frame. Precisely to the millimeter.

Ithink i saw this PC a while ago in a forum. Such a nice thing with this watercooling in the middle. But watercooling was too dangerous for me.

Those wooden plates must be freaking heavy. They seem so thick. Isnt it kind of overkill.
