Desktop as VM for laptop

White Rhino

So I have a desktop that I would like to bring to collage, and I have a laptop. Is there a way to access my desktop from my laptop over the same network.

windows has built in remote desktop

just google for remote desktop

you can also potentially use steam in home streaming

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Just use something like windows remote desktop, or teamviewer. (I prefer teamviewer, and I believe that LTT uses it as well)

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Several. To fully control the computer:

- Windows built-in Remote Desktop

- Third party software such as TeamViewer

- SSH in unix based systems, or with additional software in Windows

To access files in the computer:

- Sharing files in windows

- setting up a FTP Server

- media sharing software

etc. Which kind of access do you want to have?

The above method should work. You can also try home group where you transfer file between computers.

So... onedrive? Or google drive. Or dropbox. Or homegroup. Using a remote desktop will greatly increase the latency of the screen, so I suggest just using any sort of cloud storage or shared storage.

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

Any kind of cloud storage like Google Drive or Dropbox will work, too. Save the file there and access it on either device.

CPU: i7 4770K  |  Corsair H80i  |  ASUS Z87-Pro  |  8GB Corsair 1866Mhz  |  GPU: MSI Gaming X RX 480 8GB  |  Corsair HX  750
