I've been using TeamViewer for 4-5 years so far under a corporate license and love it.

Teamviewer all the way

Teamviewer isn't that frustrating to use. Works fine on my phone and tablet, and is probably the most convenient way imo to access my various PCs and laptop.

I must not have yet experienced the frustrating navigation that you're enduring, or it's that I've been using it for so long on mobile that I've just gotten used to it?

you need to have RDPenabled in system from all versions. then you need to connect to the ip. the username is the username you log into your pc with and the password is the password you log into your pc with. also make sure a firewall is not blocking the conenection on the pc.

Turn's out that it doesn't support the normal version of windows 8 but the pro and enterprise versions work. I did everything right but Microsoft doesn't allow it for some reason :(

Probably because it's considered a power user tool, which is fine because RDP is something that gets exploited quite frequently.
