Random Issue

I recently built my own PC. Then after a forced shutdown it would not power on. So I took it to a repair shop and was told to replace the PSU; I did and it did not help. So after doing some research I "breadboarded" the motherboard and found out that if I unplug one stick of RAM it would work. I then unplugged everything to put it back in the case and when I powered it up it would not show anything on the monitor. So I unplugged everything from the back: monitor, keyboard, and mouse and it worked. I plugged everything in one at a time and it still worked. Is this a motherboard issue?

How much RAM, across how many DIMMs, and what mobo? Need specific info please so the hardware gurus can help you out.

Yeah, happens sometimes.

As long as it isn't happening repeatedly you should be ok.

If it happens again that you need to unplug all your USB stuff to power on then I would first test all your USB devices on another PC before changing your motherboard.

If it happens on another PC then one of your USB devices is defective, and you can use trial and error to find out which one.

But it is most likely the motherboard.

Interesting. I don't like your breadboarding of the mobo. That could really mess stuff up. But yeah, probably an issue with the motherboard chipset or USB bus controller if I had to guess. Check your warranty, and see if you can get a replacement for free.
